Anyone explain the chemistry of this? I'm not too sure I want to tell our local police to douse themselves with coke, but it's sort of funny, considering they doused themselves with pepper spray in the first place (i've made that call twice, where a rookie got overzealous with his pepper spray in a rather crowded room)...

Our first course of action was to use the garden hose at the scene to wet some towels for the officers; this met with only marginal results. One of the officers swore that Coca Cola neutralizes the active ingredient in the spray almost immediately. Not wanting to miss the opportunity to see 3 cops sopping Coca Cola in their faces, we started (no kidding...) knocking on doors in the area to see if anybody had some Coke we could have. Fortunately, one can of Coke was available, and lo and behold, it worked as advertised. I don't think this is what they meant by "Have a Coke and a smile." So there's your cheap fix. Don't ask me to explain how it works, and you're on your own getting cops to swab themselves with a towel wet with Coke. Stay safe. pr __________________________________________
