Guest guest
Are you sure you didn't have it as a kid but maybe it was just mild when you were young and nobody noticed? Its possible as you got older the muscles just got weaker. I wore a back brace as a kid but hardly have any back problems even though it was never fully corrected - I just got stronger and learned to protect my back. Core conditioning and PT can help. Guest guest
I was diagnosed with very mild scoliosis when i was 11 years old. The dr. basically just told me to try to improve my posture on my own, and he would see me again in 6 months. The side-ways curve was gone when I went back, but I'd developed Lordosis, which is basically "humpback." They didn't do anything about it though, just told me AGAIN to stand up straight. A friend of mine was dx'd with scoliosis when she was 16, and had surgery for it. (Metal rods inserted in her back. The way I understand it, fibro and scoliosis can go together because muscle weakness on one side of the body makes the muscles too relaxed. The muscles on the other side of the body are "tighter" which would make the spine curve toward the stronger, "tighter" side. We also have to worry about my daughter developing scoliosis because she has mild cerebral palsy, which makes the muscles on one side of her body tighter than the ones on the other side, which makes her back naturally pull towards the tighter side. With someone of your age ( no offense) the only way I could see that it would be progressive is if the muscles continue to get either weaker on one side or tighter on the other. Or if you have osteoporosis to complicate matters. I'm not a doctor though, so I am by no means an expert. You might want to look it up. -- looking for anyone that has scoliosis & fibro i was just diagnosed with scoliosis and have had the fibro for who knows how many yrs! dx with it in 2002 though. i didn't have scoliosis as a kid though i'm now 44 . can anyone give me a reason why this goes along with fibro ? and is it progressive? a thoracic mri showed it . thanks my head is spinning out of control here gail1. Guest guest
Hi Gail, Welcome to our group. I don't know why those of us with Fibro have so many other things wrong with us as well. But there is various info in the files part of this website and maybe something in there can help you answer your question. Than again, we may have someone with the same problem who is a member on this website and they might be able to help you. I do hope you find the answers you are looking for. And again, welcome to the family.... --- suthernsnail wrote: > > i was just diagnosed with scoliosis and have had the > fibro for who > knows how many yrs! dx with it in 2002 though. i > didn't have > scoliosis as a kid though i'm now 44 . can anyone > give me a reason > why this goes along with fibro ? and is it > progressive? a thoracic > mri showed it . thanks my head is spinning out of > control here gail > > > > ===== Site-Mod: Fibromyalgia_Support_Group If I can't serve as a good example, then I guess I'll just have to serve as a horrible warning. __________________________________________________
