<< I'm type 1, have a very busy job as a Veterinary Technician, and

could use some advice. I take Humalog and N, sometimes do not get a

lunch break till 1:30 pm, which is too late to take my H, since it

seems to peak just about the same time as my morning N, and the

afternoon rush in the clinic, which can last till after 7pm with no

time for a break. Some evenings I don't get home till way after 8pm,

which again is too late for a meal, Humalog, etc. I keep OJ within

reach, but needless to say, my bg levels are way out of wack, along

with any semblance of control. I love my work, but feel I am taking

very serious risks with my health and well being. I have already had

bilateral vitrectomies and do not want to go through that again.

Short of finding a new career(I can't come up with anything I'd

rather be doing), has anyone had any similar situation amd can offer

some insight? >>

, I would recommend a cautious switch to UltraLente (UL) for your

background. Continue using the H for mealtimes (be sure you calculate your

carbohydrate intake and vary your Humalog injections based on that).

I think it's essential for you to take time on your days off to prepare

foods in advance that you can take with you to work, to snack on when

needed. Diabetes is too important to let other things interfere.
