Guest guest Posted October 25, 2006 Report Posted October 25, 2006 My husband is on liquid 02 and they can go up to 15 (I just looked at the gauge) he was on extremely high levels however now thank God he is down to 3 at rest. Double check with your dr and 02 co. We had to switch companies to get the liquid. It was wonderful seeing her with an oxygen level of 97, but unfortunately she can not go home at 8 liters. She has decided to stay home because that is where she is comfortable. I am going to discuss hospice with her, at least coming to her house. Thank you all for listening to me this past week. Yahoo! Guest guest Posted October 25, 2006 Report Posted October 25, 2006 Dear , Why can't she go home at 8 liters? Leanne uip 1/03 My previous post was not clear.... Guest guest Posted October 25, 2006 Report Posted October 25, 2006 , This is my question also... why can't she go home at 8 liters? If that's what it takes to get her sats up and make her comfortable, what is the problem? I would have a serious discussion with her doctor regarding this. I'm on 3 liters at rest and 4-5 on exertion. And when I exercise... as in on the treadmill I use 12 liters!! But that's what it takes to allow me to do what I have to do. I can't think of any reason for her to have saturation levels in the low 80's if bringing her oxygen liters per minute up will fix it and allow her comfort. Please talk to the doctor about this. He basically said to have the same kind of oxygen at home that you have in the hospital would reqire a certain kind of generator. Her machine at home only goes to 5 or maybe 6. I think it works by pulling in normal room air and taking out everthing but the oxygen. I dont mean to be so ignorant about this but I am still in the process of learning. They are telling us to have the equivalant of what she is getting in the hospital she would have to go to a nursing home or assisted living. This information came from her pulmonary doctor and respiratory therapist. She is wheelchair bound and becomes very winded even going to the bathroom. I will ask more questions tomorrow. It is just overwhelming. Thank you for thinking of us. Quote
Guest guest Posted October 25, 2006 Report Posted October 25, 2006 , I'm so sorry you're going through this. It's very clear how much you love your grandmother and how hard you're trying to help her. My suggestion (and I'm know there are other here who know lots more than me) is to ask specifically about an liquid oxygen system like Helios. I believe (someone please correct me if I'm wrong) that the liquid can run at a much higher liters per minute than a concentrator. The Helios system is very commonly available and I know that Medicare will pay for it. Sometimes the professionals need someone who's thinking outside the box. You have your grandmothers best interest and comfort as your highest priority and that shines through. Beth (Fibrotic NSIP 06/06)Draw close. Hold hands. Life is short. God is good. Guest guest Posted October 25, 2006 Report Posted October 25, 2006 Hi , There are definitely liquid oxygen systems that go up to 8LPM, perhaps you could inquire with the oxygen company re: your options. Being at home does wonders for people, familiar surroundings and as you said, memories of your grandfather. I hope that you get this figured out. Guest guest Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 Hi all, Yes the liquid goes up to 8 and more. I have 2 bottles now because I have to go to 6 at times. The water bottle needed has a white lid that goes from a 6-10 liter flow, so it doesn't blow off. You can also attach 2-7 ' lines together with a y connector and then to your 50' hose and put each bottle on 4. I have mine filled once a week. According to my airgas man their are some out they on more than 8 liters, one is on 12 liters and uses 6 from each bottle, I believe they have 3 bottles. I also keep a big bottle gas in the car as the pulse doesn't do it you me anymore. Some of the attachments conservers things you can attach a water bottle. That was one reason I hated the bottled gas it was hard on my nose, now I even have that moistened. You can talk to the oxygen provider you use and ask question, I have American home patient, and they have learned a lot cause I will question them to death about different things. Make they research things. Donna in DE Quote
