Guest guest Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 Hello Marsha, I am a newer member to the group. I have used the Vest on a trial basis for several months. I think it helped some, but I was not able to be my insurances to cover it unfortunately. They do have some sort of a payment plan that the company will work with you on. The Vest is pretty expensive....$14,000. I was not feeling that it was really worth that amount without any insurance payment. Re: Re: Saltpipe Opinion Any feedback on The Vest? Has anyone used it. Guest guest Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 Thank you. The VEST people are telling me my insurance will cover it but I want to check that out. So you really didn't find it helped that much. That's good to know. Marsha Quote
Guest guest Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 I tried it out in the summer months and am less prone to being ill with bronchiectasis at that time of the year. If I had it during the winter months I think it would have helped with the phlegm more. I know for those with CF it is pretty helpful. I don't seem to have as much coughing as some on this group, from the sounds of it. I say give it a trial run and see what you think. If one of my insurances would have helped pay for it, I certainly would have got it.....I would not qualify for assistance and felt it was too expensive for me at the time. It is FDA approved. Guest guest Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 Thank you. I seem to cough all day off and on, not bad though. But at about 11 a.m. and then about 3p.m. I have what I call " attacks. " Totally out of my control, it comes on me suddenly and doesn't relent until I cough up a lot of phlegm. Needless to say, when it happens on the subway, or when I am getting a manicure as it did yesterday, it is embarrassing and awkward, people asking me if I am OK. Thata's the worst part. And the movies, I can't sit and enjoy a movie without interruption. I sit in the back so I can duck out and cough. Marsha Quote
Guest guest Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 I can relate to your situation. Many times people ask if I am ok too, or else, that (the cough)does not sound good. One thing I have found that helps me cough up the phlegm is leaning down almost with my head between legs and really try to expand the clavical and shoulder area when doing so and then a couple really good coughs brings up and out the nasty stuff. I have heard this many times and have started to be more cognitive of doing it, and that is to take a couple really deep breaths every hour. I understand that we are probably shallow breathers with this condition and to make our lungs work better taking a few deep breaths help. I am very interested to see what feedback is given on the SaltPipe. I guess most doctor's will not buy into it since it is holistic and not exactly backed with scientific theory. I hope you fee better soon. Re: Re: Saltpipe Opinion Thank you. I seem to cough all day off and on, not bad though. But at about 11 a.m. and then about 3p.m. I have what I call " attacks. Guest guest Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 Marsha, I have used The Vest since 2003 and find it very helpful. My insurance, Medicare and supplemental insurance, paid for it. I kept it on a rental basis after all the payments were made. If there is need for repair, the company will repair it at no cost to me or will replace it. Norma (Austin, Texas)marsha.granville@... wrote: Any feedback on The Vest? Has anyone used it. Guest guest Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 Hey all! A couple of questions first – Does anyone have experience with the Electrical Percussor (ePer 100 (http://www.eper.ca/))? Would you know if it works any better than The Vest. The Vest manufacturer states that the user “may be able to apply to a non-profit foundation for assistance”. Does anyone have experience with obtaining funding from any non-profit organization (The Vest Foundation has been set-up for people who have been denied payment by their insurance company). My treatment sessions consist of a few things. I’ve been using The Vest for a couple of months now (20 minutes each a.m. and p.m). A week ago I started using the SaltPipe too (15 minutes at roughly the same time I do The Vest treatment – multi-tasking!). I am also trying to do the Flutter Valve treatment (10 minutes) after the Vest/SaltPipe. I say trying because I sometimes miss a day here and there (especially during the week when I get busy / tired from the work week). My expectations for The Vest were high. I thought that I would produce a lot more phlegm. The nurse who works on behalf of HillRom (Vest manufacturer) said to give it more time, and that being consistent is the most important thing. I’ve been pretty diligent about my treatments. Some days my cough is more productive than others. I find that if I work out (play tennis or bike ride) I produce less during my ‘sessions’, undoubtedly because I cough up stuff during exercise. My doctor said for me to keep doing whatever I’ve been doing because my Pulmonary Function Study shows no deterioration over the past 5 years (yeah!). I was hoping to actually gain ground, but what can you do? I just keep at it, and try not to berate myself too much for the days I miss. I too identify with the embarrassing situations (at work or elsewhere) when I cough and people say things like “Boy, you must be really sick.”, or “Are you okay?”, or some very insensitive people say even worse. For the very insensitive ones I usually state very succinctly that I’ve got a genetic condition that has deformed the cilia in my lungs and I can’t help the cough, which usually prompts an apology. I thank everyone for all of their posts, with information and encouragement and just venting sometimes! Please take care. in L.A. Guest guest Posted September 26, 2006 Report Posted September 26, 2006 Yes. My insurance paid a partial amount and I applied to Hill Rom for assistance. I filled out the application and received the vest with no further invoicing. However, I did not notice any improvment when I use it and I did use it for many months.Eileen-FL-- " Mingin" wrote:Return-Path: <sentto-4056817-13660-1159245264-ecbauer954=juno.com@...>Received: from mx02.lax.untd.com (mx02.lax.untd.com [10.130.24.62])by maildeliver05.nyc.untd.com with SMTP id AABCTTMQUAFFJSPSfor (sender <sentto-4056817-13660-1159245264-ecbauer954=juno.com@...>);Mon, 25 Sep 2006 21:34:26 -0700 (PDT)Received: from n27.bullet.scd.yahoo.com (n27.bullet.scd.yahoo.com [66.94.237.56])by mx02.lax.untd.com with SMTP id AABCTTMQTAJ8GFS2for (sender <sentto-4056817-13660-1159245264-ecbauer954=juno.com@...>);Mon, 25 Sep 2006 21:34:25 -0700 (PDT)Comment: DomainKeys?
