Just back from the nephrologist's office, who gave Mike little smiley faces

on his bloodwork. His kidneys are " stable. "

Creatinine was 4.2, down from 4.4. Potassium and other electrolytes all in

the normal range, except for phosphorus, which is a little high at 5.2

(gotta wean him off that diet Pepsi). Hematocrit up to 33.1 from 30.2,

hemoglobin up to 11.3 from 10.0 -- both still below normal, but much improved.

His A1c was 6.8. Not as good as I'd hoped, but down from 7.6, which was

down from 10.2. We're still struggling with what I'm now firmly convinced

is gastroparesis. The endo won't consider it or test for it until Mike

develops the classic symptoms (nausea, diarrhea, heartburn).

The best news is that he finally got his blood typed, and it's A. Same as

mine, which means there's a possibility I could be a kidney donor if it

comes to that.

Susie's recent messages on triglycerides and cholesterol are comforting.

Mike's triglyceride result was 121, total cholesterol 222, LDL 155. The doc

isn't worried about the cholesterol, though.

Hi, Cass,

Rock and roll, hoochie koo! I was thinking about you and Mike the

other day--you're doing a great job!

(Puff, puff, gotta go back to work--wall to wall patients!)
