Both readings you report are good readings, and shows that even though there

is a difference in the glucose readings by the two different machines, this

is quite normal.

As a general rule of thumb there is about a 10% error of measurement with

most clinical tests.

For instance take 10% of 113 and subtract it and you get around 102. Take

10% of 99 and add it and you get 109.

The average of the 113 and 99 is 106 and the average of 109 and 102 is

around 105 or 106.

As a general rule the lower the glucose readings are the less the

variability in the readings will be. This is why Dr. Bernstein likes the

law of small numbers. When dealing with smaller numbers, the more accurate

one can be.

The same holds true for estimating medidcation dosage and carbohydrate

consumption.

Both of your readings you report are good ones! Keep up the good work.

Hi, I use a Glucometer elite to check my bs. I find it easier to use

because I don't have to drop the blood on the strip. Sometimes if the

blood is thin or I am nervous, I may not get a true reading. I also drunk a

few bbeers at the reunion Saturday night. I don't drink beer at home any

more. It has to be a special occasion before I drink it anymore. But I do

like beer. I took my bs Monday morning and it was 136. I went to town and

had lunch with a friend. That afternoon, I was feeling a little bad so I

took my bs again. It said it was 89. I was afraid that it wasn't correct

so I took it again. My bs never is that low. The second time it was 89

also. I guess that beer can make your bs read a little low. Jerry

All these glucose machine have a 10 percent error ratio. Either number is

good. Just do a little math and you wil find this 10 percent ratio hapens

a lot!

Re: which one is probably correct

get a different kind. most use the accucheck voice mate and everyone has

trouble with it. I use the lifescan one touch profile with a speech box

and it is much more reliable than that silly one folks use. It beeps

*loudly* when there is enough blood on the unit and will tell you " not

enough blood " if the strip is not covered andit would test.

Harry, can you post info about this you called last month or so on it.

thanks.

which one is probably correct

I had lunch at one pm, I had a hamburger patty and two stalks of

celery and

water. checked my sugar at three pm. had to check it three different

times.

got three different readings. first time, 48, I think was wrong.

second

time, was 158, this might have been right. the third time was 128.

this also

could be right. am I not getting my blood in the hole right, or am I

not

getting enough blood? I usually always have this kind of trouble.

yesterday

it read after breakfast, in this order, 248-175-131. this is crazy.

this is

why I don't like this talking machine, even if it die cost 700

dollars.

maybe I should get me a different kind.

Hi all,

So long as this discrepancy is normal I can live with it. I just wanted

to be sure I/we were on the right track.

It is sorta like the scales in the doctor's office. Now, one would think

that, if it is a balance scale it would be dead on. Like 100 pounds is

100 pounds. I understand the problem with spring scales, those one might

find in one's bathroom, springs wear, stretch and so on. Balance scales

shouldn't vary one iota.

On one doctor's scale I weighed 250, on a second scale I weighed 241 and

the third I weighed 254. This was all over a short period of time on the

same afternoon. Hmm, interesting. Now, were I a butcher and the Oklahoma

State inspector dropped by and my scale was 10% off I would be fined and

have my license revoked for short changing my customers. We have the

second meter just as a back up should the primary one fail. Also, if we

get some reading which seems just out of all whack it is nice to be able

to either corroborate or refute the measurement in question. Oh yes, as

for the round batteries for the meters, I believe most Wal-Mart stores

which have a jewelry counter should be able to sell you the correct

battery and install them for you. You need to know what the name and

type the meter calls for as Wal-Mart as well as Radio shack will

probably need to use a conversion chart.

Good luck and thanks for all your help.
