Guest guest Posted October 1, 2004 Report Share Posted October 1, 2004 Sheri, Are you asking me or Lee? I take Methadone. Right now I am still on the 10 mg every 6 hours regularly. I go back to the doctor October 12 which is when I am going to let him know that I know 10 mg (even though I take it every 6 instead of every 8) is actually the lowest dose he can give me, so I want that raised instead of the breakthrough med. Right now, he ordered oxycodone as breakthrough when I told him the Methadone wasn't working as well as when I first started it. I don't want another pill added to my list, I just want my dose adjusted, so that is what I am going to ask for at my next visit. If he won't, I may ask my GP if he will take over my pain management. I really don't think the Doc will give me alot of trouble though. I was on 60 mg every 12 of the Oxycontin, he was happy that I agreed to try the Methadone so hopefully he will be "happy" to adjust my mg. Even if he changes it it every 8 hours, whatever... I just know that I have been in a considerable amount of pain for about 6 weeks now and the breakthrough med he gave me isn't touching it. I'm thinking he'll try 20 mg every 6? I didn't know the liver thing though. He did tell me to take it regularly, NOT PRN. I'm in Iowa. Wow that background is tough to type on, well to read on.... I didn't remember that you were the other person I had talked to about methadone!! LOL I seem to be foggy so much... I remember my note to you now though. I don't know if I need my dose adjusted or a stronger breakthrough med. Last time they gave me Vicodin and it didn't do a thing. Am I confused again or are you taking Oxycodone for breakthrough? If you are how does it work? I think I took that before the methadone, but it didn't work, but might be strong enough for breakthrough. If Lee or anyone else is taking it please let me know. It is nice to talk to others taking the same med. and compare info. The docs don't always think of the best thing. He told me to take it every hour (up to 6) until it worked. I think that is too much even though they are only 5mg tabs. The only plus I suppose is they don't have any Tylenol in them. I was using Darvecet as a breakthrough, but they stopped working without doubling the dose and since it has tylenol, I didn't want to double the dose everytime I took it. So he gave me oxycodone. I think he just need to up my Methadone, but drugs work differently for different people, so you may find oxycodone as a breakthrough very helpful...who knows? Let me know what your doc says and what he gives you. Maybe you will help me....lol Don't worry I have the fog too.
