Lee,

I'm so happy to hear that you have come up with a pain scale that

works for you! I'm just sorry that it turned out to be such an

emotional process for you. I hope it helped you to let go of the

feeling that talking about, and rating your pain equals whining

though. It's hard, I know, but being able to talk about it honestly

really helps your doctor, and you.

My " 10 " is a toss-up between childbirth (which I did both times

naturally), and the first time I had to move my shoulder after

having surgery. I can't believe you put a tattoo at " 3 " !! I'd have

that at about 8!

Bravo to you Lee! You made a big stride forward!

Lee,

It would also probably help for you to keep a pain journal. You are never going to get the proper care until you are willing to express it completely. They can't see your pain, you have to explain it to them and tell them where it is or they can not treat it.

My GP told me that Fibro is one of the toughest illnesses to treat because they have to rely on the patient to tell them what to treat, when, and what works. Too many patients are used to being told what they have, what it will do, and what to take to get rid of it. It is important with FMS that the patient work with the Doctor because there is no test to point the doctors in the right direction, only the patients can do that. Remember that! Your treatment success depends on you and your ability to fully explain what you are living on a daily basis.

Both my GP and my SS lawyer told me that being polite is not going to get me help. They both told me that I need to stop answering "how are you?" with 'fine' and start really telling them how I am. This is the time to complain, whine, and focus on the worst day scenarios.

Love to You and Yours.......Alenna
