I am trying the food challenge but since I started the sweets sounds extra good and I am eating more sweets than before the challenge and not keeping my goal of 2 sweets a week.Exercizing is no problem. I try to keep focus but having thoughts of quitting the food challenge. What do people think. Or maybe I'm gaining more muscle. Tibo Tiger Quote

Guest guest Posted November 19, 2005 Report Posted November 19, 2005 Hi Tyra Thanks for the encouraging words. I'll try the challenge a little while longer. It just seems the more I concentrate on having no sweets the more I want the sweets. I couldn't sleep (it's 2amn) and just ate an orange and a honey bun. My family likes having sweets around. They get the store bought cookies, honey buns, Little Debbies snakes, candy bars etc etc. I do have lots of fruit but seeing the sweets it is hard to resist, but I am getting better at it. I tried the sugar free stuff but get headaches a lot when eating them. Maybe I'll try taking a walk when the sweet tooth or the munchie monster attacks. LOL... When I saw the scale go up I got discouraged because I set a goal of loosing 5 pounds a month and this month it is not working. I like your idea of trying to stay determine to loose. However, I encourage to continue to make adjustments so that your lifestyle supports weightloss. I also try to be careful about when I weigh myself because weighing in at certain points close to my cycle will make it appear that I have gained more weight. And just so that you don't feel abnormal, I remember the same thing happening to me when I first began to seriously work to lose weight a little over a year ago. I use seeming increases on the scale to motivate me to keep getting more and more determined to lose weight. What kinds of sweets are you eating? I tend to lean to more natural foods, with the exception of sweets, of course. But here lately I have decided that I am going to begin to assuage my sweet tooth by eating sugar free sweets and sweets geared toward people who are watching their caloric intake until I can get a handle on my sweet tooth. I have actually been doing very well with not eating sweets but when I do indulge it is always high sugar, high fat so all I do is set myself back. That is why I am going to begin the sugar free items so that I don't throw my caloric intake off. The other thing I am wondering is if something out of the ordinary is going on with you. I tend do well with limiting my sweets as long as I don't feel extra stressed or worried. If I were in your shoes (and I have been in your position NUMEROUS times), the bigger issue is what is the true source of the sweet tooth. When I worked in Alcohol and Drug counseling, I learned that whatever behavior we are trying to get rid of must be replaced by something else. That is why I am replacing one type of sweet with one that is a little less enticing for me. Over time, I will replace the sugar free sweets with fruit as my ultimate goal. I don't know if I have helped but I did want to give my input. I also encourage you to focus on what you are accomplishing rather than what you are not. Hyperfocusing on the problems areas turns them into bigger problems. I have been using affirmations to create what I want. Sometimes I think I would probably sound crazy to anyone else besides my children. At 180 lbs I walk around telling myself how beautiful I am in my 145 lb body and that I am so excited that I LOVE fresh fruits and veggies more than I like sweets. I do this all day long even though I have not seen this scenario manifest in my life. What is happening is that slowly but surely I am noticing that I am doing better with my eating. I am choosing to not eat certain foods and then at times I am choosing to eat the foods that I desire to eat to be healthy and lose weight. And just to add, I picked up on this from the man that I told you all about recently, Wayne Dyer. I am cheering you on. You are exercising wonderfully. Be gentle and patient with yourself and KNOW that you will kick this sugar issue. Wake up everyday with the intent to follow your no more than 2 sweets per week goal and be wild and crazy about achieving your goal and guess what, you will. Hang in there. You are normal and will be victorious! Love Tyra should I quit? HiThe scale said I gained 3 pounds over the weekend. Yuk!!!
