Guest guest
She could say anything. I'm taking a gamble on her. She has written a few articles on technology, type things, one on how computer geeks are ticked off at the newbies who do things like download computer viruses when everyone should know by now not to click on attachments from strangers... I couldn't read the whole article, but the tone of the first part seemed to be balanced. You can search for her by writer name on the NYT website, Now I have forgotten her last name...Amy something starts with an " h " ....sheesh I talked to her for an hour and she seemed to stiffen when I said that it was wrong to give parents the option to abort a fetus if a scientist said it had " autistic genes " . She said, " isn't that the parents right? " or something like that. I told her that scientists and parents are going to do what they are going to do. I didn't want her to think we had plans to destroy genetic clinics or some dumb thing like that. I don't think we can stop them, but what I said was, after describing how a mom could carry identical twins and one could be classically autistic and the other could be me, I said, " It's complicated, the least they should do is admit that. " But she didn't treat me badly, she seemed to be taking it all in. Maybe so she could write it down... If she trashes us we'll just have to write to the editor of the NYT, and hope they print our letters. Or we deconstruct her article all over the web. :-) Camille > I hope that NYT reporter is not going to come up with yet > another article saying " These whiny adult-diagnosed > so-called autistics just want to get special accommodations > by 'medicalizing' the kind of quirks and petty difficulties > everyone has and puts up with as a matter of course. Guest guest
Hey that's cool, Was she interviewing you about autism? I have no idea of how she will characterize my interview. ( " the woman would NOT stop rambling and thought she was funny " ) Camille > Hi, > > Her name is Amy Harmon, incidentally... > > I've talked with her before, but there was something in her manner that made > it very hard for me to answer her questions. On THIS list? Are you sure? She shouldn't even *be* on this list unless she's autistic.
