Leanne, I've always been extremelly self conscious, probably since I was a teen anyway...and I still don't like people looking at me but heck if it's a choice between having them look and sitting on my couch where they can't see me? Let them look all they want, I'll just smile sweetly back. What I'm finding is that if I meet their eyes and smile, they suddenly realize they've been staring and become embarrassed. Occasionally someone will ask a question but most often no one pays the least attention. They're probably like me too worried about what everyone else is thinking. LOL Leanne, Jack is my best medicine. He gave me half his pb & j the other day and told me it was "good for your yungs" (lungs) Sleepless in NY Beth IPF 06/06Leanne Storch wrote: I'm in the self-conscious club.....I still hate wearing my oxygen...a friend of mine told me to get over myself. OK...I'm being pretty chatty tonight....my husband is watching Boxing and I'm

waiting for him to fall asleep so I can watch Nip/Tuck!!!

The whole thing with going out while you are on oxygen...did you ever think that

people look at other people all the time....when you are shopping or walking

around, you look at people's faces, don't you? Then, probably 10 seconds later,

you have forgotten about them.....I think it's the same with us....none of that

has changed....it's just that we are sensitive about it.....we are not used to

walking around with oxygen....I can promise you that the more you go out, the

less you notice people looking at you. The ones who make the comments about

" you smoked, didn't you? " are idiots....no one has figured out where to put

those people yet....they will always be around and frankly, I think they

multiply quite quickly.....but I'll bet many people think " Wow, isn't that

great...she/he is out shopping and they are on oxygen! " You gotta think that we

are educating the public....so the next person who gets brave enough to go out

with their oxygen will have it a little easier. As for the

idiots....next time, pretend to sneeze and then look at him and say.. " Oh, I'm

sorry, I'm allergic to idiots! " or you could be kinder and say you are allergic

to fools....me....I could think of some other words to use.....but, I'll be

good....

I like the " allergy to idiots " . I think I have that. You could also

try saying - " I never smoked. My doctor says I caught some exotic

disease from the rain forest. I hope its not contagious! " Tom

Between that and the announcers thinking they have to scream....Aaaaargh! I have earplugs, but I can still hear those whistles and buzzers!!! Why do sports shows have to be so loud???

When I go out in public with my oxygen, people stare at me too, they're usually polite but I havethis rash on both arms from the steroids so when they see that, they back away, like I'm gonna rub up against them or something. Oh well, I've decided to live my life to its fullest and not worry about what others think.

Also, I finally got my back Social Security!!!!!! Yayayayayayaya, I paid a ton of bills and my hubby and I have been doing some shopping. Perfect timing since my daughter gets married in 2 weeks. My atty put my case as urgent in May and I got approved and my first back check by July 31st, not bad, so ya'll appy for your SS...:)
