Guest guest
Sharon, I wanted to very much, but it conflicted with memorial service for my deceased grandmother. I can only come when it is in the East, due to financial pressures. Guest guest
Several reasons. Cost, wouldn't want a scholarship, because other reasons make me feel not imperative or important to go. Have been 2x, helped the most in my early years, first camp. Now, I am very far away from a low overhead practice, and I am working essentially 3 jobs. I have to add CME or any other committments very thoughtfully. I travel to Oregon once a month to do a Med MJ clinic, that is this weekend, although makes me money, also I visit my elderly mother, and stay with her, keeps me on top of her health, and I have come to feel a moral obligation to these clinics, money or no. I don't make a ton, in fact if you factor in the 8 hr of RT travel, Its a low rate of pay. Second job the IT, can do anywhere, but do alot of hours, third my practice. Large sq footage, big loan, 4 staff, 1/2 beaty, only part of IMP I am interested in from camp this year is the cash/no insurance part. Philosophically I am an IMP, but I seen 15-20 people a day, and that isn't enough really, using my pay this year, and last to pay down the big loans, and pay the staff, and use the other jobs to live on. My thoughts would be elsewhere most of my time at IMP. Cote To: "" < >Sent: Saturday, October 15, 2011 9:21:42 AMSubject: Why aren't you at IMP Camp? Sitting at IMP Camp in Silver Spring, land. Guest guest
& Village Medical of CNY 1) MONEY!!! Even though we could and would have driven saving lots of airfare like expenses. We are Broke and accomidations and meals out, no less pet sitting is not something we have the funds for... Almost had the office lights turned off this week. The Man who came to collect got a bit rude not understanding why I just couldn't cut a check until I checked the Bank Balance... Man did I rip into him... By the time he left, he knew a lot more about primary care and lack of real free markets controlled by the power elite.... I was so hoping to be able to attend this fall because of the relatively close nature of where it is being held, but it just didn't work out that way.... 2) Before School is out and after school starts up again in the fall, especially once there is hockey season again, we are in tight straights here. We don't have relatives that live anywhere close to us who drive to stay with the kids or the kids with them, no less get them ready for school and hockey no less get them there, especially the hockey which does not have an alternative bus system to use if need be.... But over the summer with some warning we could probably leave them with some good friends or get them to and from family. In a few more years this may not be so needed as they are now 11 and 13, but for the moment it really is obviously. So I guess it is basically kids, hockey season for my son, possibly theater for our daughter, and school, and MONEY.... Even with reduced fees it is more than we can hack right now.... Guest guest
Sharon,I am not in camp and have never been to camp, because it’s held when there are a lot of other things being held and I can only take some much time out of the office in a given month or time period. This year, it’s during school which would mean leaving family behind which I don’t like to do often. It’s around the time of my EMR User Group’s meeting which I attend every other year and the AAFP meeting which I try to attend every other year. That doesn’t leave room for this meeting. Cost is always and issue but more of a cost of lost income then actual cost to attend the meeting. Guest guest
I didn't go to camp this year because our group is still working on our "to do" list from last year's IMP camp. We spent much of the last year working on recruiting and Meaningful Use so much of our IMP work was put on hold. I'm hoping to find out if there's much new information about cash or direct practices at this camp. i finally made it to my first camp after stalking this movement since 2005. it was nice to see so many like-minded people, finally see the faces for some of the regular names posting on this list-serve, and attend some of the talks. wish i could have made it to more of the conference but its my dad's bday and im just here till tonight. i hope to go next year for the full conference! thuc
Guest guest
I would have loved to have come but just hired a nurse this year, termites invaded the house, deer hit the car and had to replace fence. Doubt I'll come next year due to will be west coast but hopefully in two years when in middle of the country if not in the summer but I understand summer is easier for those with children in school. I am so happy that recorded. I couldn't listen live as I did do local CME conferences (so much easier when don't have to pay for hotel and travel) but I will later this week. Guest guest
There are several reasons I am not at IMP Camp. 1) I am just starting my practice and financially I cannot afford to spend the travel expenses to come.2) I have a young family, including a nursing infant (9, 7, 5 & 8 months). This makes traveling difficult because I would not leave them at home and bringing them would be very challenging for my dear husband as he would be Mr. Mom while I was attending IMP camp sessions. I would either need to go and pump, missing the sessions or find a way to nurse the baby……not much fun when too far from home.3) There are some health challenges with my children that make traveling very cumbersome. Two of my children have chronic benign neutropenia and therefore are immunosuppressed. So, we try to be out and about during the summer months when illnesses are at a minimum. Public places are petri dishes for them and we have roaming times and hibernating times. We also have dietary restrictions, so the only traveling we have done included taking and preparing our own food……..Gluten free, vegan (no meat, eggs, dairy) and soy protein-free. I would however be interested in attending. The only way I could do it at this point in my life, would be to have it closer to home (Upstate NY) so I could commute or we could travel there as a family and stay someplace close by where the kids would have something they could do, while my husband was with them. If you ever decide to come this way and want some ideas, let me know, I’d be interested in brainstorming on venues. It sounds like a super camp. I also would love to participate “remotely” via the web sometime. I couldn’t see it through the web this time. Hmmm? I would also love to meet you all to have a face to match with the name, too. How many people attended? How many people are a part of this group? Is there enough to have small groups meet within their regions in between IMP camps? I am just thinking that there are a few of us in Rochester, NY and even dinner to discuss the latest and greatest IMP topics might be nice. Those of you grouped in other areas might be able to plan a small get together close to you to connect with others in your area. If people were a few hours away and not in the same city, maybe even a half a day or full day event to make it worth the trip, depending on numbers. Small presentations from those in the group, recap or individualize concepts discussed at IMP camp, discussion group on a topic, a guest speaker discussing a topic of IMP interest either medical or business related, lunch or dinner, etc. Thoughts? Guest guest
Hello - For us it is just timing and location. We were planning and registered to go to Seattle camp in 2009 but then my father took very ill and we cancelled all travel that year. If it is on west coast next year we will try very hard to be there. We are cash-only and opted-out of Medicare so in a bit of a unique niche practice, but will be happy to share our challenges and successes with all of you. We have been open for 6 years and we are going strong - certainly not a get rich quick scheme, but very satisfying, incredibly fullfilling, and a pleasure to come to office every day. For those of you on the western side of things, you may want to consider coming to the CALIFORNIA ACADEMY OF FAMILY PRACTICE Annual Scientific Assembly to be held in Indian Wells, one of our beautiful adjacent cities. The dates are April 21 and 22, 2012, and I will definitely be there, most likely presenting my "Dementia Prevention" talk, but it would be a great opportunity for local IMP's to see my practice and get my wife and I to share about our 6 year experience. The dates are April 21 and 22, 2012, and I will definitely be there, most likely presenting my " Dementia Prevention " talk, but it would be a great opportunity for local IMP's to see my practice and get my wife and I to share about our 6 year experience. Take care! Palm Desert, California Subject: Why aren't you at IMP Camp? To: " " < > Date: Saturday, October 15, 2011, 7:21 AM Sitting at IMP Camp in Silver Spring, land. Can't imagine why anyone wouldn't want to be here..... If you are NOT at camp, can you tell us why? We need to plan for next year (and have some idea how large of space to reserve). Camp 2012 will be in the west (we rotate eastern, middle and west parts of country). There are lots or repeat campers here, but if you have attended a camp before and didn't return this year, let us know why. If you have never been, please let us know also. If the issue is cost, please tell us why you didn't apply for scholarship. We'll hope to share our learning and enthusiasm from here, but we do miss you. Guest guest
Sorry for taking so long to respond. I wanted to attend. I was out on a locums assignment to help cover the cost of malpractice, licensure, DEA, re-cert exams, ACLS, home repairs, etc. My practice has been open less than a year. Right now it's not generating enough money. I see patients on the weekend and do an out-of-town locums assignment during the week. Also, I will need to take time off from the assignment next month for the board exams if I decide to follow through.
