Guest guest
Hello everyone. I'm 30 years old and was just diagnosed with TCS 2 weeks ago. I never showed any symptoms until this past year. I was always active as a child, figure skated competitively, ballet, played field hockey in high school. It started when I noticed my left foot would get numb when I would jog along with a numbness, tingling feeling that ran up my legs. I also found it harder to wear heels than normal. I would feel wobbly and like my ankle would give out in certain shoes. A friend even pointed out that in certain shoes I seemed to limp a little bit. I was concerned I had fractured my foot working out since I had broke my foot in college. After seeing a podiatrist, she had sent me to a neurologist in the Washington DC area who ran MRI's and diagnosed me with TCS. He was not able to give me alot of information because he said it's mostly seen in children. He referred me to a pediatric neurosurgeon who I will see this afternoon. I'm worried that they are going to schedule a surgery right away when I don't know everything I need to know. Is surgery always necessary? I plan to ask him how many procedures he does along with questions on the actual procedure and recovery time. Is there anything else I should ask? Should I get a 2nd opinion from another neurosurgeon? I've read Dr. Magram is the top neurosurgeon at INOVA Fairfax hospital here in the DC area. Sorry for the long post. All this has happened so quickly!
