Guest guest
Rick you said your chiro helped with your lower back and hip pain. Remind me again do you also have SB? I have always been told that with my sb which is right at my tailbone that I should not have a chiro touch me in that area. Maybe this is something I could discus with the ortho when I go for my first visit in June. If this is something that could help with this god awfull back ache I would be forever grateful to you for informing me of this. I think Im still afraid because the patch on my sb is huge according to the nsg that Im afraid of springing another csf leak even though it has been a year since my surgery. He about had a heart attack when I told him I fell this winter on my stairs not once but twice. Do you know if it is possible to get another leak this late after the surgery. I didnt mention that the pt gave me a 6 inch wide elastic band to wear around my hips and this does seem to help keep my pain down to Id say a 7 from a ten. This constant backache started after my surgery last year and for the most part it would come and go but seems to be staying constant for the last couple months when I felt a pop in my left hip although the imediate pain went away after about a week this constant ache has stayed. My nsg says If im doing something that hurts just dont do it. Duh but bending over to get a pan from the oven didnt seem like a big deal. Or sitting or standing for that matter. Thanks for your help Chris

Previous discussions on this list (few years ago), have indicated that Chiro should not mess with that area. My Chiro is also " Certified in Chiropractic Spinal Trauma " which certainly what SB is. I will ask him. Here is his website: http://www.pain411.com/ His email address is on the contact button, so I will just cc this message to him, see what he says. I see Dr Lonquist, <mailto:>drl<mailto:>@pain411.com. Dr Dan, if you are not comfortable with saying anything, we understand, that is ok >Maybe this is something I could discus with the ortho when I go for my >first visit in June. I would think that if you are structurally sound, it would be ok, but I am not a doctor AND be sure that any Chiro knows of your condition! >I think Im still afraid because the patch on my sb is huge according to >the nsg that Im afraid of springing another csf leak even though it has >been a year since my surgery. I do not know, anything is possible. My CSF leak took about 6 weeks to heal plus I have a tube sticking into my dura for the Baclofen pump. It was implanted a year after detethering surgery. >I didnt mention that the pt gave me a 6 inch wide elastic band to wear >around my hips and this does seem to help keep my pain down to Id say a 7 >from a ten. Maybe Dr Lonquist can explain what is going on, I give him permission to tell what went on with me. Since he can not reply to the list w/out being a member, I will forward anything he has to say. Good Luck, Rick rickr@...

Guest guest
Hi At 06:29 PM 5/1/2004 -0400, chris holcomb wrote: >Rick thanks for asking for me I guess I should have been more specific. I do not know, excellent question for your doctor since he knows of your circumstances. For me, I had 9 laminectomies, from T8 to L4. The lamina was NOT put back. Structurally, I am very strong, the laminectomies do not compromise my spinal column. > Im sorry I don't know all the medical terms for my SB. Thanks again Chris I have good & bad days too, seems to follow the weather. Today is sunny & 70 degrees and I feel great. Who knows what it will be like tomorrow Are you on any of the SB lists? I know that there are several and many members of this list are also members of various SB lists. Maybe someone will post a list of 'lists'. I think Brande has something about SB on her web site and she is also a member of the Spinal Cord Injury list that I tried unsuccessfully to subscribe to. I will gladly post a list of lists on our website if someone would send me the info. I am out of school for the summer next Thursday - SO EVERYONE ElSE - send me the web page updates and I will get to it. Good luck hope you find answers, Rick > Re: Rick about Hips and Chiro's > > > Here is Dr Dan Lonquist's reply: > > At 11:36 AM 4/30/2004 -0700, drl@... wrote: > >Hi Rick, I'm asuming that SB= Spina Bifida.
