Trudy - Thallium stress test is a nuclear medicine way of finding out what

your heart looks like. I've had two of them, five years apart. My 84 year old

mother has had a couple also. You get on a treadmill (or as in my mother's

case, you are given medication raise the heart rate) and get your heart rate

up to what the doctor thinks is appropriate for you. At that time they inject

the thallium into you and it circulates through the blood system. You laydown

flat in a cubicle with your left arm over your head. You lay there for about

45 minutes while a camera takes numerous pictures of your heart from all

angles. The doctors can then tell how your heart is operating and whether

there is any visible heart disease. This is not a painful test, just very

boring and hard on you if you are claustrophobic (which I am). As I mentioned

before, my husband has observed that I have more pictures of the inside of my

body than most people have of the outside of their body!!
