Guest guest
I see Dr. Ham at Detroit Children's Hospital, I have had excellent luck with him and his office. Carol Barber Dr. Suggestions? Hi all...Well, I'm looking for suggestions for Dr's within driving distance of northwest Ohio area...Michigan, Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana or elsewhere...doesn't matter...just do NOT want to fly anywhere. I'm chicken. I know I have posted that I love my Dr. and am totally satisfied with Cleveland Clinic..BUT...my last couple appts., which actually, I go one time a year...I have been disappointed. Actually, I had my MRI done in March and then he wanted further x-rays so I had them done when I got home because I was held up soooo long at the x-ray department at the Clinic that my Dr. had to wait on me...they were shutting out the lights. He made a swift judgement after reviewing the x-rays and MRI saying it appeared that I was retethered and suggested surgery. That's it?? Although he did say he would get with other Dr's and get their thoughts. I made numerous calls and anyways...to make a long story short...after months, and many calls...his asst. called me and wanted me to schedule surgery. I told her I had MANY questions for my Dr. and she said I could ask them when I came in for my pre-op appt??!! Don't think so! SOOO, I faxed up a letter to my Dr. with specific questions like what is he opinion of the outcome IF I have surgery...IF I don't have surgery...what can I expect maybe in the future??? etc. etc. That was 2 weeks ago...have not heard anything. So, I think I should maybe pick up my films and get another opinion?? Boy, I am such a wimp when it comes to this stuff. It's like I try to be this nice person that doesn't want to hurt anyone's feelings...yadda yadda yadda. Of course, I'm the one that loses because I hesitate to ask the questions or insist on answers. SORRY this is so darn long...but I need someone else's opinion if I should check elsewhere for another opinion. It just seems as though my dr. just wants me to schedule sugery like it's no big deal...sort of like ordering a " happy meal " . Man...it is MORE important than that to me anyways. I have excellent insurance right now..but we all know how that can change....I don't want to NOT do anything and maybe make things worse for me in the future...and I'm only 52 so I feel that I'm young enough that I have alot I want to do and IF I can have something done to make things better...I want to at least have the option to consider it. SOOOOOO suggestions anyone....Dr. suggestions?? Hospital suggestions for 2nd opinions?? Thanks for the help...and sorry this darn thing is so long. Lynn Not Medical Advice. We Are Not Doctors. Guest guest
Thank you Carol! Along time ago when I first started this process of trying to figure out what was wrong with my back...the first neurosurgeon I saw in Toledo didn't want to mess with me and was going to send me to Michigan or Northwestern. So, I figure somewhere in that Wolverine State..they must deal with this very well. Thanks again. Guest guest
Lynn, Dr. Ham is wonderful, extremely knowledgeable about all of the problems we deal with and works fast. Make sure, if you go see him, to mention my name. I believe that I have paid for part of his office by now!!! Guest guest
Carol...OH, I definitely will mention your reference if I end up there. I know what you mean about probably paying for half of their facilities (hehe)....But at least you're paying for someone that helps!!! That's a good thing, huh! I just HATE having to go through all this.....just wish it was something simple like gall bladder or whatever....zip zip and you're fixed! (hehe) Cracks me up though...my husband WHINES about his shoulder all the time!!!! CONSTANTLY!!! BUT..mind you...he played 18-27 holes of golf 5 days straight over the Labor Day holiday....now how sorry can I feel for that man! He's been whining for the past 5 years! I worry about walking from the bed to the bathroom when I get up from laying down....and he wants sympathy from me! (hehe)..That's a toughy! Have a good day and thank you SOOOOO Much for the information!! Guest guest
Lynn- If it isn't too far, the Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago is AWESOME. My son saw Dr. Robin Bowman for the MRI/diagnosis. It might be worth the distance, they are great there. Good luck!
