Guest guest
Hi WW Friends, Since we are all grown-ups. Therefore, I think we can choose if we need a jump-start-New-Year-boost-diet OR if we might just like to use this wonderful soup simply as a low point WW meal. (It is far better than the 0-point WW veggie soup, I think!) So in advocating NO-censorship-of-diet-experiences, I am providing the info. for each of you to choose according to your individual preferences and styles. I personally have found that I need a boost to kick things off in order to keep my energy and motivation to keep LOSING up....(it is slightly depressing in the beginning to lose SO slow and gain it back) This and the 3-day diet are serving ONLY as a temporary jump-start. I then plan to stick within my WW points as my normative eating plan (as not to gain the loss back) and to be nutritionally more sound for the longer term haul. I used this soup as a crash a couple years ago and lost 13 lbs in two weeks. The great thing about this soup is that you can eat unlimited amounts...so you are not starving....you remain comfortable the entire time. It also tastes fabulous (much unlike the cabbage soup--yuck!!)because it is flavorful and a little spicy and SPICE and HEAT are supposed to help rev up your metabolism as well. If you are interested in the post-holiday/new year boost, each day for two-weeks I followed this regime: Breakfast: High Fiber Cereal (like Kashi) with a minimum amount of low-cal soy or rice milk. Mid-Morning Snack: Banana Lunch: Soup (see recipe below) OR for variety some days I would have 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup of homemade Hummus with 1 piece of pita bread in triangle pieces instead of soup. Late Afternoon: Soup (unlimited bowls) Dinner: Soup (unlimited bowls) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This " Miracle Soup " (adapted by Carmel Reingold, author of " The 7 Most Effective Ways to Jump-Start a Diet " ) is claimed to help you lose up to 9 lbs in ONE week: Miracle Soup Recipe: 1 TBSP of peanut oil 1/4 cup fresh ginger 1/4 cup chopped garlic 2 cont. (32 oz. each) + 2 cups of fat-free chicken broth 1/2 cup cornstarch 1 pkg. (10.5 oz.) extra firm tofu, cut into 1/4 inch pieces 1 can (8 oz.) mushrooms, drained 1 can (8 oz.) sliced bamboo shoots, drained 1/2 cup soy sauce 1/4 cup rice wine vinegar 1 TBSP sugar 1 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes 2 bags each Oriental style veggies (I use one Oriental, One Japanese that provides the recommended waterchestnuts, broccoli, carrots AND the mushrooms) 1 lb. fresh peeled and deveined shrimp (i buy the frozen, cooked, 16 oz. bag of large shrimp) 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro 1 pkg. (10 oz.) spinach trimmed and coursely chopped (I prefer the fresh on this rather than the frozen--I ahve had it both ways) DIRECTIONS: In a large pot, heat oil over medium heat. Add ginger and garlic; cook until tender, 3-4 minutes. Combine 1 broth with corn starch until smooth (separate from the ginger, garlic and oil--or it will become lumpy) Fold the cornstarch and broth mixture into the pot. Add remaining broth, tofu, mushrooms (if separate from bagged veggies), soy sauce, vinegar, sugar and crushed red pepper flakes (I added red pepper flakes into the initial simmering garlic, ginger saute and it made the soup overall, more flavorful as it was more infused with the spice of the pepper flakes. I thought it was better this way). Bring to a boil and cook until thickened. Add friozen vegetables, shrimp and cilantro. Simmer until shrimp is opaque, about 10 minutes. Stir in spinach last, until wilted. (Also, the times where I cooked it all too long--after the shrimp and spinach had been added, it wasn't as good!) NUTRITIONAL INFO: Makes 20 cups: Per cup: 87 calories, 9 g protein, 2 g fat, 35 mg chol; 9 g. carbs; 751 mg sodium; 2 g fiber Enjoy!! It says to enjoy AS much as you'd like because ultimately, the liquid and soup is so low cal yet filling that there is no need to worry about how much you are consuming. ===== PS Remember: Be STRONG, Be healthy. Do NOT relinguish. Go Forth and Conquer!! Grrrlllll!!! __________________________________________________
