I guess I must sound a lot more " together " and " coherent " than last time I wrote you (off list) and will apologize now to you for what must have been some choice language in there - I think that just illustrates my point that *off list* and in the right *circumstances* I don't " sound " like I do on lists. >I'm one of those who react strongly to the use of fowl language, the " f " word >always bugs me, and sort of feels like a stab into my brain when I hear >it. You are not alone and this is a point I was trying to make. I would never ask anyone (except my kids) to censor their language and even then the issue is not black & white. I was, in my usual awkward way, trying to sort of say what Kim was: " But if you have socail difficulties and you present yourself publicly as you do onlist (I don't presume you do, you haven't said so) then its possible (if in fact you do) that you may scare folks off. " I was trying to say - But if you have social difficulties and you present yourself as you do onlist then its possible (if in fact you do) that you may *offend people* and/or *not be heard*. That would be sad because you have the tools to edit. It's not about " representing " anything unless you are representing the wish to offend (once you know you are offending which was my point - to make folks aware that it is generally found to be offensive) I don't want to be knowingly offended (not to say that profanity online, on lists or IRL offends me). I want to be accommodated where need be. I want to be respected. I want (demand?) the same for & Ben. Why should I not offer the same in return? >There is great power in profanity, no doubt, but one can find great power in >other language, too. in losing it you find out just how much >I hope your family is well and that Spring will come soon to your >world. The camellia bush in my driveway is blooming, and there are crocus popping up all along my walk to work. This morning, the radio said the humidity is 40%. That is very dry for Seattle. Once I was in the southwest U.S. and heard that the humidity was 15%, I was shocked. After three decades in Seattle, I had forgotten that it was possible for humidity to go belong 60%. The norm here is between 80% and 100%, I think. We've had three sunny days. The rain is due back by tomorrow afternoon. I'll think of you and remind myself to be glad it's not snow. Guest guest
Hi, I had forgotten about that 3 pepper letter, see, no harm done. I knew that you were upset, couldn't miss that point! :-) mmmm Maple syrup sounds wonderful, must smell pretty good when they are making it....although a sugar beet sugar factory stinks pretty bad. We made it at home for several winters when I was a kid back in Connecticut. During 4th grade the teacher talked about it a bunch and some of us did it as a class project, though I kept it up long after that because I got really into it. The place I grew up had sugar maples growing all over. I collected the sap every day and mom would boil it down. I love maple syrup. We could boil off sap in the fireplace because all the steam went up the flue..... I have very fond memories of hanging out around the fireplace making syrup for days on end. The trees there were tiny compared to the ones we have here (and lost last fall), big enough to hold 1 tap, some trees here took 3. -jypsy ________________________________ Ooops....Wrong Planet!
