Guest guest
I tried everything with my son and if anything would work it was only for a short time. We haven't really started solids yet because my son is just almost 5 months old. I can tell you though that getting probiotics was the best thing that I have done yet! We use the Natren Life Start. It's $15 @ the Vitamin Shoppe and it has I think 70 something doses in it. I want to try the Jarro brand because it seems to have more strands of the good bacteria in it but so far the Natren is a lifesaver! He has had a BM almost everyday since about the 4th day he was on it and the once or twice that he skipped a day he didn't seem bothered at all and he would just go earlier in the day the next day. Usually the probiotics go in a bottle but some of the brands you can dab the powder on yourself before breastfeeding. If you do try it please let me know if it helps. Oh, and be sure to give it at least a full week before deciding if it's working or not. My son didn't do anything other than burp very loud after drinking it for 4 days and then he had the biggest BM of his life! Then he went twice the next day! So be sure to give it a good run if you try it! Hope this helps! > > I have an 8 month old who has pretty much been backed up for a month. > He is breastfed and had been on solids (fruits and veggies..nothing binding) close to a month b/f this began. We've tried the prunes and pears, belly rubs, baths. He refuses a bottle or sippy so extra fluids come from me. Then the dr. recommended baby lax and lactolose. The baby lax worked when i use it and no luck with lactolose. Our last dr visit he recommended mirolax & baby lax. I have real reservations about using the mirolax b/c of the dependency factor and his young age. I still haven't determined the underlining cause ..we had started some cheerios and teething biscuits, but he also popped 2 teeth. Any advise would be truly appreciated. We just started using slippery elm bark powder and that initially has got some movement. My son continues to be happy and pleasant and only strains after the baby lax. Guest guest
Thanks for telling me about the Jarro! The Natren is working well so far so as long as it continues to then I will stick with that! Have you tried the Natren? Did it help? To: miralax Sent: Mon, September 27, 2010 9:13:25 PMSubject: Re: Re: 8month & backed up I myself tried the Jarro and ended up with a tummy ache for hours? Guest guest
Thanks for the info..I am definitely going to try this..Were you successful in getting your baby off the Mirolax and on the probiotic to go? I'm wondering if I need to use the Mirolax to " flush him out " and then use the probiotics? > > > > I have an 8 month old who has pretty much been backed up for a month. > > He is breastfed and had been on solids (fruits and veggies..nothing binding) close to a month b/f this began. Guest guest
Personally I wouldn't recommend any flushing. I kept giving my son the same does of miralax and I gave him the probiotics twice/day to start then after almost a week I cut back to once/day for maintenance. The extra dose of the probiotics won't hurt anything but who knows with the miralax. After my son had regular BMs for a few days I started cutting back the miralax does. My son only took 1 tsp/day, so I cut it down to 3/4 tsp for a few days. As long as he goes today I will cut it down to half a tsp tomorrow. But so far so good. And the first poop once the probiotics are in the system will probably be better than any miralax clean out anyway. My son's seemed like 4 normal BMs combined! Then he went twice the next day (both very large also), then he skipped a day but it didn't bother him so I didn't mind. Then he went early the next morning. Good luck and let me know how it goes! To: miralax Sent: Tue, September 28, 2010 10:43:11 AMSubject: Re: 8month & backed up Thanks for the info..I am definitely going to try this..Were you successful in getting your baby off the Mirolax and on the probiotic to go?
