Guest guest Posted September 26, 2006 Report Posted September 26, 2006 Hi Sunshine, Methadone is definitely a narcotic - regulated just like Demerol or Morphine - but with a prejudice factor that other narcotics don't necessarily have. Many people, if you tell them you are on Methadone, assume you are a drug addict in treatment. It is long-acting, inexpensive and very effective for some people. If youdidn't respond to it before it could be that they just didn't find the right doseage or for whatever reason it's just not the drug for you. If you go in asking to try a particular drug, some MD's will see that as drug-seeking behavior, something none of us need. In my experience, most pain doctors have a regimen or two of drugs that they prefer to use because they have the most experience with them. A new doc will most likely stay within his comfort zone in prescribing. Just my experience ; ) Willow Quote
