Guest guest
Jen, I used Mag/Malic acid a while back and was convinced it wasn't working, so I stopped taking it. I started having a lot more pain. I had other things going on that I figured caused the pain. Just recently I started with magnesium and Malic acid again, and I swear I feel a bit better. I hope it is what is working for you. It may not be the solution for all of your pain, but anything helps, especially if it is natural! Good luck!! Hugs, -- Magnesium and malic acid update Well, I've moved into step two of my work with magnesium and malic acid supplements. They seem to be the cause of my improvement, but to make sure it's not a coincidence, and I'm not wasting my money on something that's not truly helping, I've started to testing them. On Sunday, two weeks after I started taking the magnesium and malic acid supplements, I began to taper off of them. I didn't want to stop taking them abruptly, for fear of triggering a flare. Goodness knows it doesn't take much to start one up these days! I took half the amount that I was normally taking, and tomorrow, I will stop them altogether. I want to see if my usual symptoms come back, and to their normal severity. Then, if and when they do, I'm going to re-introduce the supplements, and see if they help again. If I get the same results as I did the first time, then I will know for sure that it was the magnesium and malic acid that made the difference, and I will feel more comfortable about telling you all, or anyone else " This worked for me. " Since I've tapered off on the supplements, I have noticed a few minor negative things. I was sleeping a lot better when taking the supplements at bedtime, and was down to 5mg of Ambien. Now that I'm only taking the supplements in the morning, I'm back to having trouble sleeping again, taking 10mg of Ambien, and sleeping fitfully. I've started having muscle spasms again...had some doozies in my calves last night as I was driving home from Subway. My back is hurting more again too. I don't know if it's a psychological effect, or if the magnesium and malic acid can really make THAT much difference that backing off to half doses can have that much impact. It's a very interesting and educational process for me. Well, that is my update for now, and I will keep you all posted on how things are going once I stop them completely. I'm just dreading bringing back the pain to know for sure, and I really hope that the supplements ARE what has caused me to improve, because it's relatively inexpensive and the improvement was dramatic. Keep your fingers crossed for me! Hope everyone is doing well! Jen

Guest guest
Dear , Hi, and thanks for your feedback. About 4 days or so after I started taking the Mag/Malic acid, I actually had some noticeable improvement, and by the end of the first 2 weeks, I was feeling really great. But ever the doubter, I have to know " for sure " that it's actually the supplements, and not just a coincidental good cycle responsible for this sudden improvement, so I tapered my doses, and stopped them completely today. Already, I'm feeling less than great. I have to say though, I'm highly sensitive to a lot meds and supplements. When I was taking Seroquel for sleep, some people were telling me that they were taking several hundred mg's and still having trouble sleeping, while I was taking 25-50mg, and sleeping like the dead. Then, on the flip side, some meds are like sugar pills to me, and don't affect me at all! Very strange how our bodies work. The antibiotic that caused me to develop Fibro in the first place actually acted like a toxin in my body, attacking my joints, muscles, and tendons, but others take it without a single problem. Right now, I'm starting to see a return of my symptoms. My sleep cycles were the first thing to become disrupted. Now my back is killing me again, I'm having muscle spasms, and my neck and shoulder muscles are all in knots. I will stay off the supplements until Sunday, or until my Fibro symptoms get to where they were before I started on Mag/Malic acid, whichever comes first. If I go back on them, and I have a marked improvement like I had before, I will know for sure that they are the reason. No, they aren't the total solution to all of my pain, but taking them made me feel about 75% better, and I was able to avoid relief meds much of the time. That is something I can DEFINITELY live with, and is a lot better than what I was dealing with before! For me at least, these supplements seem to be a godsend. Thanks for the well wishes. They're very much appreciated! Big hugs, Jen
Guest guest
I visited my doctor today and asked my doctor about Magnesium. He thought it was a valuable addition to my diet but said to be sure to get the magnesium as a tissue salt or equivalent. Apparently taken any other way it just passes straight through without being absorbed and doing any good.
