I too take lots of " pills " but they are not effective without a host of

supporting changes

1) a pain psychologist helped me change old habits and behaviors that aggravated

the

condition

2) a good phys therapy program helped strengthen core muscle group and lessen

day-to-

day pain (I tried on my own, but only made things much worse)

3) lifestyle changes--what I could and could NOT do, and stick to the rules

4) exercise: helped body and mind

5) weight loss reduced strain on the lower back

6) a whole regimen of how I sleep, sit, etc. I sleep with pillow under my knees,

LOVE my

heating pads and twice-daily hot baths

7) lots of stretching during the day (some do very well with yoga)

8) a good and compassionate doctor (that was easy for me to find, but some never

seem

to locate one)

9) sharing and reading here helps a LOT. Mom, wife, etc will listen but they

really don't

understand. Here I get host of good replies and empathy

There's no quick fix, but a lot of little things combined to make life much

more bearable.

18 months ago I was suicidal from the daily level of pain, which has been

greatly reduced.

My marriage is much better. I used to only think about how I was going to

survive the day,

now I'm looking ahead and life is so much better.

Hope this puts you on the right path to a better life... it ain't easy but

things CAN be better

Lee,

I was having a lot of back pain last year and figured out that it was the

matress i was sleeping on. I put a foam pad on the matress under the sheet,

and that has helped me a lot. I don't wake up with back pain most mornings

anymore. Have you tried one of those beds that are adjustable so you can be

sitting up in bed? Just a thought. I hope that you find something that

helps you!

Hugs,

Sierra
