Guest guest
For what it's worth as anectdotal evidence, my mother had a hysterectomy ~ 1967, in part to remedy an incontinence problem (any little jiggle created a mini-flood). The surgery resolved the problem completely and it has not recurred. She retained her ovaries - and has now gone through normal menopause. I think her cervix was removed. She had to twist the doctor's arms to get the surgery done & wishes she'd had it done years earlier. I am worried > about long term > efffects of a hysterectomy Bladder problems etc. I am still researching > > > _________________________________________________ FindLaw - Free Case Law, Jobs, Library, Community http:///www.FindLaw.com Get your FREE @JUSTICE.COM email! http://mail.Justice.com
Guest guest
Hello to all!! Just want to let everyone know that today I had my pelvic ultrasound to check on my six month post UAE fibroid status. Guess what? All of my fibroids, except for one, the size of a pea, have shrunk up and gone away!! I am thrilled and very pleased! Dr. Lurie, my IR, called me today right after he received the ultrasound report!! He was very pleased with my results as well! So, there is hope/success with this procedure!! My excessive bleeding and cramping have also returned to normal/mild. Unfortunately, the ultrasound shows a 4.5cm cyst on my left ovary. Hopefully it will resolve itself, but there is a possibility that it may continue to grow and cause me problems. I will be getting a call soon to schedule another pelvic ultrasound, in 4-6 weeks, to check on this cyst. Please keep me in your prayers and thoughts. My mother has a history of cysts on her ovaries, which burst and caused her to have an emergency hysterectomy!! I just hope not to follow in her footsteps where this is concerned!! Anyone out there ever had cysts on their ovaries and can share their experiences? Thanks to all for listening. --Val-- ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guest guest
Val, I too have a 4.5 cm. cyst on my right ovary and I am in the watch and wait mode for that. I had my UAE procedure on March 20, 2000 and I sure hope I have as wonderful an ultrasound as you did when I reach my 6 month exam. I just had my first cycle since my procedure and it is back to the way it was when I was 20!!! YaHoo!!!! Let me know what you find out in regards to that cyst. Mine has me a little freaked but I am ever hopeful it will simply go away on it's own. Congratulations on your great results. Guest guest
Val and : I too have a couple of large cysts on my ovary. My Dr. said he can go in and " drain " them, has anyone heard of this? They found them when they found the fibroids, and apparently don't seem to be in too big of a hurry to do anything about them, because they are " clear " . I think they are causing some pain at times. Robyn

Guest guest
Because that's the very least of all the things you've experienced in the last year. If you must, go for liposuction - that seems to be the way to go to achieve 100%. Guest guest
Dear Robyn C, UFE has risks. Keep in mind everything does, but UFE and it's risks are not dependent on where your fibroid is located. However, a fibroid located in the muscular wall of the uterus is more likely to begin sloughing after embolization. What does this mean for you? You may pass more clots after embolization than someone who does not have an intramural fibroid. If you have a pedunculated intramural fibroid, with a thin stalk, you chances are slightly higher that you may pass the whole fibroid. ( I actually had a patient call me from a NYS Thruway rest stop saying she was giving birth to her fibroid.) Now the question is, would you regard this as a risk. Well, for the woman I just mentioned, other than alot of cramping and passing a very large clot, she felt great afterwards, and was happy she new she could call me on a saturday night to help her through her ordeal. When I hung up the phone we were both laughing hysterically. My thought for this woman was that she got the best of both worlds, she got to have the embolization instead of surgery, and she got rid of her fibroid essentially atraumatically. The worst case scenario is for someone who has an extremely large pedunculated fibroid that decides to break of and cannot be passed, this would involve lots of cramping with clots for a prolonged period of time, and may require your GYN to go in hysteroscopicallyto remove the offender. Therefore, if you have a large intramural pedunculated fibroid, and decide to go through UFE, than these are the things you and your IR/GYN need to have a plan B for. As with everything in healthcare, it is always best to plan for the worst and expect the best!! Good Luck, and I hope this helps. Patty Meo, R.N. Guest guest
Patty: Thanks for the info. Mine is not pedunctulated, but i'm pretty sure mine was in the uterine muscle wall. i agree i would luv to " give birth " to this thing and know it's completely gone and be done with it. I do have a lot more blood clots with period than I thought I would, so maybe it is " breaking off " . Again thanks for the information. Robyn C. Guest guest
Robyn, Try one of the local health food stores - not a GNC center. There are many homeopathic remedies that work for water retention. I use homeopathic remedies for quite a few things. I don't know the name of them offhand for water retention, but I'll check. Also, a health food store attendant should be able to tell you, but I'll see what I can find out. Barbara (unknown) Has anybody noticed they retain water, since ufe. I am so swollen, but then if I take a dieuretic it goes right away, stomach flattens right out. I don't want to take dieuretics everyday, does anybody know of a natural dieuretic that won't cause problems. I'm sick of being swollen like this. Guest guest
I'll do that today Barbara, thanks and let me know if you hear of any specific natural dieuretics. I didn't have this swelling until recently. I look pregnant right now, but if I take a dieuretic, I look like stomach is almost flat. But I wonder does the retaining water have anything to do with ufe, or just a coincidence, I haven't changed eating habits or anything, if anything I'm trying to watch my salt intake and eat less. Of course, once you have something done, you try to associate everything with that procedure, especially if you didn't do it before, and this, of course, could be completely unrelated. I'm so swollen, I'm miserable. Again Thanks.
Guest guest
Hi Robyn, None of the information that I've obtained on UAE said anything about water retention as a symptom. First I've heard of it. Anyone else out there have this problem since their UAE? If so, let us just-recently-had and soon-to-be-done UAE's know. Every little bit of info helps. Thanks, Barbara RE: (unknown) I'll do that today Barbara, thanks and let me know if you hear of any specific natural dieuretics. I didn't have this swelling until recently. Guest guest
The nurse called me yesterday to say that I can still move on with IVF. She said that the spot was either a fibroid or a fibroid pocket left over from the surgery? What is a fibroid pocket? Does anyone know. We are just going to watch everything and make sure nothing grows. Robyn
Guest guest
Robyn, I did have stomach swelling...But my uterus was the size of a 3 month preg. I had " bitched " about things like pain, swelling, painful intercourse, heavy heavy bleeding and thats about all. No one ever did an ultrasound till recently and the pathologist after my hyst. said my cancer had to have been growing for " years " . No one had done a thing. Please if you feel something isnt right, it probabaly isnt. Tell someone! Anyone until they listen and help you. If they dont satisfy you, go to another dr. This is what I continually did. Till I was taken seriously. And thank you for your thoughts////Dawn --- " Smile, It makes everyone wonder what you are up to " >Dawn : > >What kinds of things were you bitching about, like what were the symptoms. >I had the ufe and my stomach doesn't seem to be going down at all, however, >right before ufe they told me I had an ovarian cyst but it is nothing to >worry about. Guest guest
I don't know about everyone else, but I would consider that small to medium. My fibroid is about 10cm x 11cm x 7cm and I think that is somewhat large (or maybe medium to large). I've been told my uterus is 16-week size (in terms of equivalence to pregnancy). My doctor said surgery is more difficult after 20-week uterus size, so I would think 20 weeks & greater is definitely large. I'm sure others may have more expert opinions on this though. B. Guest guest
Thank you Robyn. Take care, Barbara (unknown) Barbara: Best of luck to you tomorrow and with your recovery. My dr. told me that depo can make fibroids grow. I have found out my fibroid was a 4cm., my IR and his nurse make that sound like that is such a huge fibroid and it's gonna take some time to go away or whatever they do, but then when I read about the size of others fibroids, that seems small. It's all confusing!!! I know mine grew from a 2cm to a 4cm in one year, so that is doubled. Again, good luck, i'll keep you in my thoughts. Guest guest
Hi, I'm the one who cancelled hysterectomy last October and am now going for it in June! Meanwhile, since last August I have had three separate 3-month injections of Lupron to achieve fibroid shrinkage. After reading some e-mails from the group this morning, I now surmise that my weight gain of about 10 pounds is due to this chemical. Could that be true? I have not changed my eating habits and have continued to exercise yet that extra weight has not budged. Other than this, however, Lupron has not had caused any adverse effects whatsoever. Any Lupron experts out there care to respond? (unknown) : I had a ufe in Feb. of this year. All I can say is that like you I weight train, 4 x a week, run 4-5 miles, 4 times a week, so I know it is not from lack of exerciese. Like you mine is all in my mid-section. But this past year I have gained about 8 lbs. and I cannot get it off no matter what. I watch what I eat carefully, for a couple of weeks and then I get discouraged for a few days and eat the wrong things. People tell me it's because of my age, so is it some magical thing that the day you hit 40 you start gaining weight. I attribute it to the fibroid and hopefully, this damn thing will dissolve soon or whatever it is that they do after ufe. Guest guest
Thanks for the response, Robyn. I'm wondering if the culprit is the fibroid or the hormones that cause the fibroids. My worry is, if it's a raging hormonal imbalance of some sort, no fibroid treatment will help. I guess time will tell. I'd like to know your results, as shrinkage of your fibroids continues. Maybe that'll give me some hope. I'm just feeling a bit depressed and helpless about it. It seems like this ought to be something I can control. (unknown) : I had a ufe in Feb. of this year.
