Hi Robyn:

I ceased having a period for approximately 6 months after my UAE. However,

it ultimately returned.

Robyn,

I can certainly relate to that. For years,I went to dr after dr and told

them=======something is very wrong with me.Every time I left the office of

yet another doctor,,,,I knew that the problem was all in their heads,,,not

mine.My fibroids caused me to stay in the house for months and months at a

time.I certainly wasn't hallucinating,when I saw the blood and the " boulders "

every other minute!!! It is so easy for them to say--you have DUB!!!! and

just forget you and send you the bill. I had gynecological problems for so

long,,,I really can't remember not having them.I really enjoyed your

post,,,thank you.

I'd like to register in on this discussion. This weekend I was confronted by an

older female gynecologist who, after studying my booth and discussion with women

at

the Feminist Expo, declared to me that uterine fibroids do NOT require

treatment.

Of any kind. When I asked her what women with excessive bleeding, pain, urinary

incontinence, etc. were to do -- she told me that it would all go away with

menopause and that they should simply be patient. I was left speechless. Not

for

long. I gave her copies of all of my material and asked her to critique it and

get

back to me. I told her I was sincerely interested in trying to understand her

perspective and would welcome her feedback. I don't think she expected that

response. It left HER speechless. She took the materials and left. I didn't

see

or hear from her again while I was at the Expo. These doctors do exist and

practice medicine all over the U.S. We need to quietly and calmly educate them.

It will take time. Some will never listen to us. But we should definitely be

writing them 'Dear Doctor' letters to let them know what we think and how we

feel.

Then move on to finding a better, more informed physician for our own health

care.

Robyn, I certainly hope your sister has found another doctor. Preferably one

who

will listen to her and is open to communication about her physical health.

Robyn, to date there is no report involving a successful embolization where new

fibroids appeared. Leonie

Robyn, a fibroid within the uterine muscle would not be shed -- it's trapped

within the muscle. When it dies, the body will gradually reabsorp it as it does

any other cells that die. And there is no guarantee that a submucosal fibroid

will be shed; there's no way to predict which ones will be shed and which won't.

The other issue with non-organic coffee is the high levels of pesticide used

on it. Your liver works over time to eliminate the toxins and is less

effective in processing the excess estrogen in your system.

Dear ,

I believe that the bottom line is that you need to do what is right for

you. Although, weigh the pro's and con's carefully. I'm concerned that you

mentioned the cramping after UAE as being a deterrant. Have you any idea

what it feels like to have had major abdominal surgery? Granted, it is

immediate satisfaction as far as getting rid of your fibroids is concerned,

but at what cost? 6-8 weeks of dealing with an abdominal wound can be very

painful and extremely tiring. You mentioned the fact that you are active,

if you feel that 6-8 weeks of recovery to never have to worry about a

fibroid again is O.K., then weigh your options and consider hysterectomy.

Keep in mind, a typical UAE recovery lasts 5-6 days, and after the first 24

hrs. of the procedure the way you are feeling will be the determining factor

of what you will be able to do. You are correct by stating that the

shrinkage of the fibroids/uterus is gradual, but then again so is the

growth. Some of our patients that we have contacted one month after the

procedure say their symptoms have already begun to disappear, and we have

even had a few women say they felt immediately the decrease in the size of

their belly. UAE does not preclude you from having surgery, if it doesn't

work, you still have hysterectomy as an option, ( I feel pretty confident,

however, that you will not need/want one.) My advice, start small and work

your way up. Good Luck with making your decision and keep us posted!!

Sincerely,

Patty Meo, R.N.

Thanks for the encouragement. My anemia weight gain makes me somewhat

emotional. i did find out that the first dr. may be wrong my fibroid may not

be 16 cm and could be only 5.6 cm. Knowing that i could once again run a

half marathon is really what is in the back of my mind. so if anyone has had

the UAF and works out a lot let me know how long etc. it took you. Again

thanks so much

I lost about 10 lbs, partly from drinking lots of water instead of

soft drinks. Plus, I started using progesterone cream.

I work out. Started back doing step aeorbics at 3 weeks and walking. Dr.

told me not to lift weights for a while though, so I didn't do those for 1

month. I am back running now, after 8 weeks, and that was mostly put off

because of laziness. But now I have shin splints--any advice on those?

I'm pretty pleased with everything following my ufe. It has now been 8 or

9 weeks, I wish my stomach would go down more, but I realize that it hasn't

been that long yet. I have a lot more energy now, after the ufe, than I

have the past year.

Robyn --

The problem with one's pot belly, as I understand it (regardless of whether

you do UAE or hyst) is that the stomach muscles have been so stretched out

from accommodating the fibroids, it takes either exercise, good genes,

cosmetic surgery (or a combination) to really restore it back to normal.

Expansion due to pregnancy is only for a few months; many of us have been

expanding with fibroids over years, so it would naturally take even longer to

get those muscles back in shape.

This depresses me greatly, too, as my belly seems to be expanding more and

more lately, while I decide exactly how to address my fibroids.

I hate to think of all those wretched sit-ups in my future...

Hi Robyn - Forgive me for not remembering how long since your procedure, but

maybe you can help your body help itself. A little light exercise,

specifically, crunches - stomach work - might bring you faster results. aslo it

seems to me that since fibroids take a long time to get so large, it will take

a fair amount of time before you see the results you'd like. Surgery of any

kind takes its toll on the body and since we're not as young as we say (!),

that would also affect the healing process. I had my knee " scoped " abount 16

months ago and it's still not quite at the level of

Sorry, Robyn - I was too fast on the trigger and didn't finish! Anyway, my knee

is

still not quite at the level I feel it should be and for a while I was feeling a

little down about it but it is BETTER than it was and that's what I choose to

concentrate on. So, you may not be exactly at your peak but it will come and

you

should try to strive toward that time, not worry about things that for RIGHT NOW

aren't happening. Aren't you better than you were before you had all this great

info and Carla and all of us who feel good for you? Of course you are!

My tummy has just been going down gradually, but don't get me wrong! The usual

PMS bloating occurs each month, it's just that the prego. stomach has left,

thank God! My largest 4.5cm fibroid was located inside my uterus, upper right,

where was yours? I don't mind the questions at all, and please feel free to

email at my email address, if you'd like.

Thanks again for info. Mine was right in front they kept saying and had

pressed my bladder almost flat. I guess mine is going down a bit, just not

as fast as I want. They kept saying mine was a 4 but I don't know if that

meant cm. or 4 month pregnancy. I just have to learn to be patient.
