RE: 911:: re funny/odd/weird street names

I'm a retired police officer. Had occasion to cite a person once whose name

and street were the punch line. I even kept a copy of the license with me

for a while to show the other cops and unbelievers. I probably should have

sent it to the tonight show. Ready?

Here are a few of my favorites:

Within the dispatch jurisdiction of my Comm Center:

The intersection of Tip and Top streets.

We have hundred of miles of Spanish names for streets; I live on Agua

Dulce, which means " Sweet Water. " The whole neighborhood where I live is

laid out with Spanish named streets. Another close one is " Agua Caliente " -

Hot Water. I'm rather glad I don't live over there! <grin>

The county courthouse annex in Monterey is on Aguajito Road (Little bit of

water or lake.) It's pronounced Aw - gwa- hee- toe. Folks who aren't used

to the Spanish pronunciation mangle it really badly all the time,

especially if they only see it on a sign.

Calle de los Agrinemsores. (Street of the Land Surveyors - only

" Agrinemsores " is LATIN, not Spanish.. but " Calle de los " is Spanish. Oh well.)

No Name Uno. ( " Uno " is one in Spanish, what's up with the " No Name " part?)

2 others I have seen which made me glad I didn't dispatch in those areas:

Brown Material Road.

Alameda de los Pulgas. (Avenue of the Fleas)

Now, there are two bars with " handy " names to make it sound perfectly

normal for folks to arrange for " meetings: " The Office and My Place.

Those are difficult to deal with when something happens at 'em: " Where

are you, sir? " " I'm at the office! the office! " or " It's right outside my

place!!! "

We don't have any of those streets either. One of our newest is named for the

son of

the town developer...Nir Schriebman...try listening to that from people with

REAL

Southern accents! Couple that with Ruch Lane (pronounced " Rue " and named for our

DARE

officer). And, we do have an entire trailer park devoted to the old " Dallas "

show...streets like Miss Ellie, J. R. Jock, Sue Ellen, Cliff and so on.

We also

have an area of one subdivision called the " Baseball Streets " ...names such as

Babe

Ruth, Ty Cobb and Hank . In one of the cities close by, there is a road

that is

named Tater Peeler Road.......

This one is just a tongue twister... The local State Correctional Facility

( C.I.) is in my county and we get quite a few med calls there. The

street name is as follows: try saying it a few times...........you'll seeeee

We don't have many weired names up here. We have an industrial park that

are all letters & numbers. That gets a little confusing for alarm

companies when we get a call up there.

We have a subdivision that is all " star " : Starlight, Starbright,

Stargate, Starcrest, Starlawn & Starridge. Those get a little confusing

when dispatching them. For the most part, street names are common: Tree

names, peoples names, water ways, etc.

I have run into a few funny ones here in Ohio. I'm not sure of the town,

but it on my way down to Ashland. It's call Tom Dick & Harry Street.

Last time I was down there the sign was gone. (I wonder why anyone would

take that ;-) )

My ex-fiance worked in a small town called Haskins which is about 5 miles

north Bowling Green, Oh. There is this road call Rouche de Boufe. I

couldn't pronounce it then and I still cannot pronounce it. I think it's

Roosh-de-boof? I'm not sure.

I wish I had some really weird or confusing names to share with everyone,

but that's all that I could come up with.

I know it's a few days late, but I hope everyone had a safe and Happy
