Guest guest Posted February 7, 2004 Report Posted February 7, 2004 I'd appreciate some input on your various views on doing extra cardio to accelerate fat loss. I'm currently reading Tom Venuto's " Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle. " He has an approach that is fairly compatible with body for life, but he really stresses a need for more cardio (in addition to weights, of course). He claims that daily cardio (at least 4 or 5x a week) will really make the fat go at a rate which will surprise most people. I'm around 20 lbs from my goal, but I have really come to believe that I must do more cardio or SOMETHING to accelerate the fat loss. When I read people's stories in the exercise mags, especially about people in the business as competitors or fitness models, it does seem like they all do more cardio than BFL advocates. I understand the concept of the high intensity, and I do that, but it just seems to me that over time my results are not as I would like so I need to do SOMETHING more. I'm watching my diet like a hawk and not cheating etc., portion sizes are appropriate, I've been doing the 6x a week of exercise as outlined in BFL, but the last 3 weeks I've been adding in extra cardio where I can PLUS extending my 20 min. on cardio days to a full hour (half HIIT, half moderate). I " feel " like there's a slight change, but I'm staying off the scales for a time and I'm not measuring until the end of week 4 next week, so I won't know for sure until then. I'm totally realistic about the speed with which to anticipate results, but I've been doing BFL for a long time and for me it's always SLOW. Another area that I endlessly debate is about how much to actually eat. I know you can underdo it, and I've read that women shouldn't go below 1200 calories. I tend to end up at about 1300-1500, but I wonder if I should eat less than that? I'd be curious to hear what you all have experienced vis a vis the cardio end of things. Quote
