High school students with disabilitiesthroughout Florida have participated in and benefited from this outstandingsummer event. We would appreciate it if you would share this informationwith your colleagues, parents, and students.Now Accepting Applications for Youth Leadership Forum 2005The Able Trust is currently accepting applications for the Florida YouthLeadership Forum (YLF), a unique leadership program that will take placeJuly 21 - 24, 2005, in Tallahassee. Fifty current high school sophomores andjuniors who have disabilities will be selected as delegates for the forum.The YLF, which is co-sponsored by The Able Trust and the FloridaDevelopmental Disabilities Council, is designed to bring together youngpeople with disabilities with leadership potential and help prepare them forthe future.The YLF will include educational programs that cover topics such as thehistory of the disability movement, personal leadership plans, careeropportunities and academic and community resources. Delegates will learnleadership by example through meetings with disability community leaders,business professionals and government dignitaries. In addition, social andrecreational opportunities will enable delegates to network and learn fromeach other.Student delegates will reflect a diverse mix of disabilities, gender,geographic location and ethnicity. Applicants should demonstrate leadershipskills, participation in extracurricular activities, community involvementand academic achievement. Applicants should have the ability to interacteffectively with other students, adapt to new surroundings, follow anintense schedule of forum activities and demonstrate a willingness toparticipate in small and large group discussions. Selected student delegatesmust show proof of health insurance (private insurance, KidsCare, Medicaidacceptable).Delegates will be housed at Southgate Campus Centre, a private dormitorybetween Florida State University and Florida A & M University. Chaperones,medical attendants and security will be provided. There is no fee fordelegates to attend the YLF. The Able Trust will pay all travel andliving/meal expenses through corporate sponsorships and donations.The deadline to submit an application is Friday, November 19, 2004.
