Guest guest
Ok, I know some of you on this list are cat people, so I will send this. Perhaps you all need a laugh, hope you get it. I know it's nothing to do with exercise or eating but, like the heading says, so stupid you will laugh........(almost as stupid as eating gluten will make types A and O gain weight.......) Z. 2 weeks ago my DIL called me from work, said a girl she works with found a cat along the road when she was going home the night before, picked it up, took it to the vet, got meds for it (was in bad shape, eyes pasted shut, ear mites so bad he couldn't hear out of one ear, emaciated....you get the picture) and asked my DIL if she knew of anyone on a farm that would be willing to take it after it stayed the weekend at the vet's. DIL called me, I said ok, but would have to keep it in a cage till it got used to us, the surroundings, and the other cats. That was ok, as it still had to have meds after I got it. The girl was so happy that he would have a good home and could be in a barn, since she already has 2 cats and didn't have room for another. She brought the cat out on Monday, the 4th after she got done with work. Put him in the cage, bought him moist food as dry food wouldn't have given him enough of what he needed at this point. He's a young cat, probably less than a year old, a cream tabby. His eyes were looking good, but still needed to follow up on his meds, which I did. He LOVED to be petted, but you could tell he was still kind of scared. After he had been here a week, he would even lay down and kind of twist himself around when you petted him, but he hadn't quite decided that I was good enough to purr for yet. :>) I had told the girl she could come and see him anytime to see how he was doing. She came out Thursday night, I took him out of the cage for her, she was holding him and petting him; I went back to milking, as we had a meeting to go to and I wanted to get as many milked as I could before Brett came down to finish for me. As I was leaving the barn, I saw that she was outside with the cat, still holding him, and he was frantically trying to get away, since being outside was way beyond his comfort zone at this point. She didn't want to let him go, and I happened to have my old t-shirt off (I was also wearing a tank top, layers, you know, to shed for hot flashes....<BG>) so I put it around the cat and took him back to the cage. Well, the cat bit her on the wrist in his struggles to get loose. I gave her some peroxide to dump on it, told her were to put the bottle, and said I had to go. The next morning (Friday) at 8:30, a Sheriff's deputy walks in and wants me to sign a paper saying I own the cat that bit the girl. Guess her wrist got all swollen up and at 10:30 that same night she was out here she went to the ER to get some antibiotics. Well, I guess around here : animal bite=notification to the Sheriff's dept. I didn't know that, so I assumed that she was putting the blame on me so I'd have to pay for all this. Made me mad, thinking I had helped her out and now I was getting screwed over it. The deputy didn't know that she had picked up the cat, and that she had taken it to the vet for meds, and I had taken the cat after she wanted to find a farm for it. Someone (deputy # 1, who took all this info from the girl at the ER) had neglected to inform deputy #2, who came to see me yesterday. When I told him the whole story, he said, well, I'm not going to make you sign this, not in light of what you just told me. He was going to talk to the girl and get back to me last night. In the meantime, all this paperwork got passed off to deputy #3, who saw I " refused " to sign the paper, and took the whole works to the health department, who then said that the cat had to be put to sleep. I should add here that the girl that brought the cat is feeling just awful that all this has happened, she said if she would have known that this was going to happen, she would have lied and said that it was one of her cats at home that did it. And also add that by my " refusing " to sign the paper I was in contempt, and incarceration was looming on the horizon for ME (which I didn't know, going blithely on my way doing whatever..........). The girl managed to get the paperwork at the health dept. backtracked back to the Sheriff's dept, told them that she owned the cat so it wouldn't be knocked off by the health dept. and now the cat has to be quarantined for 10 days at the vet's. Never mind the fact that the damn cat has been " quarantined " and in a cage for the last 2 weeks to begin with.......... I feel so sorry for the girl, she even said " none of this would have happened if I wouldn't have felt sorry for him and picked him up " . I told her she shouldn't feel bad, it wouldn't have progressed this far if those idiots at the Sheriff's dept. would inform the next jerk that gets the paperwork what has happened up to the point that the paperwork gets passed off. She is coming this morning to pick up the cat, take him to my vet for the 10 days, and we'll go from there. I told her I'd go half on the " incarceration fee " at the vet's for the cat. She feels so bad she said no, she would take care of it, but I will try and get her to see my side of it for this part. :>) So, hope that this gives you all the comfort in knowing that our men in blue (or brown, as it is here for the county mounties) are on top of things to keep us all safe, especially from already-quarantined cats.
