Hi All!

I just wanted to share a little recipe with everybody (all the new moms,

moms-to-be, and crafters making baby lines out there). My twin girls (preemies,

born @ 35 weeks gestation) had contact dermatitis when they came home from the

hospital. I didn’t want to use the little samples of ’s Baby Wash they

give out, after reading that the ingredients were: water, surfactants,

preservatives, and fragrance. I thought about making a baby soap, maybe a

castille…but decided not to because it would burn their eyes if I (being a new

mom) accidentally got some in there. So I revised our crystal shower gel

recipe, excluding a few ingredients and adding Allantoin.

The contact dermatitis was cured within a few days! If you haven’t heard about

Allantoin, you can learn more about it on this page:

http://www.todieforsoap.com/allantoin.htm

This recipe makes an EXCELLENT, tear free, healing Baby Wash, Baby Shampoo, or

Kid’s Bubble Bath. It is as natural as it can be and is extremely mild and

gentle. The surfactants used come from Coconut Oil and Sugar.

Ingredients:

Water 295 grams

Glycerin 10 grams

Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate &

Sodium Lauryl Sulfosuccinate 75 grams

Cocobetaine 75 grams

Crothix 6 grams

Poly 80 20 grams

Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein 10 grams

Allantoin 10 grams

Germaben II E 10 grams

Directions:

Mix Water, Glycerin, and surfactants and heat to 170 degrees. Mix Crothix,

Allantoin, and Poly 80 just enough to melt the Crothix. Mix well and add to the

heated water phase. Allow to cool to 105 degrees and add Hydro Wheat and

Preservative. Scent with Lavender Essential Oil at 1% or nothing at all.

I hope you and your babies/customers enjoy! While I’m typing, I’d just like to

say thanks to everyone who sent their prayers and well wishes while I was in the

hospital. And to those dear soapers who have sent little outfits and such to the

twins. I’m very touched, and the girls appreciate it.

When my Mother (Judy) started her retail business, she did so in order to be

able to leave her career as a programmer/sys admin, and stay home to watch my

little brother’s daughter, Jaida. When she started her supply business, it was

to help other mothers and grandmothers afford the opportunity to do the same. I

am now one of those mothers, and our mission hits home with me now more than

ever. Breastfeeding twins demands such a rigorous schedule that it would be

absolutely impossible if I had to work outside the home. So thank you, thank

you, from the bottom of my heart. You make this possible.

If you’d like to take a peek at a new picture of my twin baby girls, here it is:

this page (all of us ready for our first little outing)

Is your recipe accurate or is there an ingredient missing?

This recipe is equivalent to this formula:

57.73% Water

1.96% Glycerin

14.68% Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate & Sodium Lauryl Sulfosuccinate

14.68% Cocobetaine

1.17% Crothix

3.91% Poly 80

1.96% Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein

1.96% Allantoin

1.96% Germaben II E

This formula contains too much Germaben II-E.

" Germaben II-E is recommended to be used at a level of 1.0%. "

http://www.ispcorp.com/products/preservatives/content/brochure/preserve/preserv.\

html

BTW, " Germaben II-E ... was developed especially for cosmetic creams and lotions

that present preservation problems caused by the presence of paraben

inactivating

materials. "

Do have any data that would support the use of Allantoin in a rinse off product?
