I would think individual, because CMS has

specifically stated that MU $ are awarded BY ELIGIBLE PROVIDER.

I dont , but I know several who do moonlight in other outpatient primary settings.

No one has asked that questions before

that I’ve seen.  I guess CMS figures that most docs only work in one practice.

If you are a hospital employee, that doesn’t qualify as an eligible

professional.

I have registered a few of my clients since registration opened Jan 3. Some of

the recently certified EMRs including e-MDs are not yet showing up in the

registration site, but the site states that can be added later. Furthermore,

attestation, the process of formally attesting your compliance and logging your

compliance of the multiple requirements does not begin until April 2011. Since

Stage 1, Year 1 compliance is a 90 day reporting period, you have a few months

left for your emr to get certified and still report in 2011.

The NPI will dictate which SSN/EIN your payments will be tied to. This is a

question for your tax accountant. For a PA, as my clients all are, we have used

the Group NPI, so the payment will be made to the PA EIN. There are cases where

the Individual NPI would be used. But definitely a question for your

accountant/tax advisor taking into account your specific situation.

There is a good step-by-step registration guide here:

https://www.cms.gov/EHRIncentivePrograms/Downloads/EHRMedicareEP_RegistrationUse\

rGuide.pdf

If you are waiting for your EMR to certify, you should still log in and register

at ehrincentives.cms.gov. The main thing is to make sure your PECOS login is

active as this is the login information you will need to log in to

ehrincentives.cms.gov. This point has slowed down a couple of clients.

I registered without a problem. My EMR is not certified yet.

Another question. My EMR vendor says that, if you demonstrate MU only for

Oct-Dec, then you get the 75% of only Oct-Dec Medicare charges (i.e. not 75% of

the whole year). If this is so, would it be better to wait to 2012 to attest?

Anyone know?

My understanding is that for 2011, you

only have to demonstrate meaningful use for 90 continuous days to get 100% of

the MU $. I think your EMR vendor is quoting the rule incorrectly.

Here’s a link to the timeline: http://www.cms.gov/EHRIncentivePrograms/Downloads/EHRIncentProgtimeline508.pdf

According to CMS, Eligible Providers have

until 10/1/11 to start using the EMR to receive the 2011 MU dollars. I

cannot find anything that cites that you would not get the full incentive.

And, if you wait until 2012, you would still be eligible to receive all of the

MU$ owed (up to $44K). It’s just that for 2012 and thereafter, you

must report for the entire year, not just 90 days.

Please ask your vendor for more information/source information on that. My

understanding is that Year 1, Stage 1 Attestation is a 90 day reporting period.

If you meet the criteria during the reporting period, you would get the full

amount available to you. So even if you wait until 2012, your Year 1 reporting

period would still be 90 days.

According to the published schedules, Year 1 can be either 2011 or 2012 to

receive full incentives(the full $44k).

Year 2 is a 365 day reporting period. Many EPs may have trouble complying with

all criteria for the full 365 days of Year 2. I don't know if this was by

design, an effort to avoid paying out all the funds?

Yes, , that’s my understanding.

Sorry to have misrepresented that in my earlier post. The rules will likely

change again in 2013, and we plan to achieve MU in 2011, so I’ve sort of

been going off of that date and ignoring all of the other “what-if’s.”

Do you know if they will use the base amt for the 75% payment then on

the full yr 2011(they would have to wait till end of yr to know this)?

Or will they use base amt for 2010?
