Guest guest
This week I am going to combine all the contributed information from recent discussions on MSM and put it in the Files section. MSM is methyl sulfonyl methane - a natural organic form of sulfur epsom salts are magnesium sulfate (a salt of magnesium) ....so they are not the same, but the body can absorb sulfur from either form. You also get some Magnesium from the epsom salts. MSM is used as a topical pain killer and I also bought some glucosamine/chondroitin/MSM cream for my husband from Nature's Plus at the HFS. The glucosamine is for rebuilding ligaments. The chondroitin is a carrier to help the other stuff be better absorbed. And the MSM is for the sulfur and pain. I have seen the MSM and glucosamine together is several products. The MSM you have would be the same as the MSM we are discussing for sulfur. Every concoction using the epsom salts left a dry sandy film from the salt on the skin. Salts are drying of course, so I was not successful making a cream out of them, although someone else might. MSM does not have the drying effect of the salt, although some of my concoctions were a little gritty going on. But the crystals readily broke up and rubbed into the skin. When I heated the MSM crystals and lotion or oil, mixed well, then they stayed mixed as it cooled (or at least so far, about 6 hours now). > And if my son reacted negatively to the epsom salt baths (even to > just a teapoon of it! aggressive and angry-- three baths, three > mornings), Some parents have said this indicated that your son was really toxic and NEEDING the detoxing effects of the baths. When I pursued this a few months back the advice was to continue the baths with less salts and give him time to detox....that it would get better. then if MSM cream is a slightly different compound than > epsom salt, I'd like to try it... where do you find it? Well I just made my own at home (unless someone posts saying I made something cancerous, I am just so pleased with myself, LOL). However, there were 5 different MSM cream formulations at the HFS and there are gobs of them online with an assortment of additives. After my name is a list of links I found the other day, or you can punch in " MSM cream " in your search engine. I just bought a container of pure MSM powder for $28 and it has 16 oz (227 servings) at 2 grams or 1/2 teaspoon/serving. I looks like white crystals, like unrefined sugar. They recommend 1/4 in the morning and 1/4 in the evening. If I mix this with a lotion and/or coconut oil and apply it, the amount would be about a 1 teaspoon or a little more of lotion. That is an easy amount to apply. Fortunately, you cannot overdose on MSM so I can be pretty liberal with it without worry. . -------------------------------- I searched for some MSM cream products and found the following information. Most products contain up to 15% MSM and one product saying this is the maximum amount of MSM possible in a cream. I also tried to find how much cream you needed to apply to equal a capsule. Only one source listed anything at all, see below. A lot of the products have the same ingredients as in the Kirkman MSM cream, but others do not. Just search for " MSM cream " or MSM lotion " and you will get gobs of sites. You can find creams with or without fragrances, all natural, with trace minerals or ionic stuff, and other additives. There was a big range in prices, depending on quantity, form and other additives. $6/2oz or $12/4oz was common on the high side with lots of places offering bigger discounts for larger volumes, such as $10/8oz. There were also MSM gels, soaps and toothpastes. http://www.life-flo.com/msmplus.html Pump lotion cream 5 oz 19.99 --(you are paying for the fancy pump, but it is a nice pump) 8 oz Lotion 9.95 MSM Caps 9.95 3oz MSM and Glucosamine cream 12.95 Contains 15 percent MSM- the maximum concentration possible for a cream. These are available in my HFS. http://www.naturesplus.com/products/supp_detail.asp? criteria=search & category= & sf= & searchVar=MSM & productNumber=4925 & goThere Button.x=20 & goThereButton.y=8 I bought Glucosamine/Chondroitin/MSM- Ultra Rx-Joint Cream by Nature's Plus because my husband's cartilage in his knees is very thin (he has always run for exercise) and so this was more for the glucosamine and not the MSM - $12/4 oz and the HFS person said it works very well for joints. http://www.sourcenaturals.com/guide/msmc.html This are available in my HFS. http://www.health-pages.com/cgi-local/aff2.pl? These include headache, loose stool, fatigue and nausea, lasting a 1 to 14 days - the uncomfortable but welcome signs of cellular cleansing. If detoxification symptoms are unbearable, reduce the amount of MSM until symptoms subside. Do not stop taking the MSM. Your end result will greatly outweigh the temporary discomfort of detoxification. A single dose of MSM is usually not effective in relieving symptoms. Noticeable results are usually seen within 2 to 21 days. The amount of MSM in each dose is not critical. The minimum individual dose is about 750-1,000 mg. However, total daily dosages of 1,500 to 5,000 mg are recommended (2,500 to 5,000 mg being preferable). Everyone's body will respond differently and different conditions will take longer to heal. MSM is helping your body heal itself. Some conditions are relieved in days, while others may take months.
Guest guest
i don't agree with this, taken internally it is a complex substance having anti bacterial and anti parasite properties amoung other things. in combination with hi zyme and cellulase enzymes it may effectively deal with yeast or parasites, i think a course of this had a postive effect on me but its very hard on the gut and can't be done for ever. " detoxification " is not an appropriate description for the use of this supplement, the effects from taking internally are not detoxification but from its anti microbial effects and the keratolytic action. its discovery was by workers getting skin contact with waste water as a timber industry by product as far as i can see. http://www.sunlandherb.com/products/msm_information_pack.htm the level of distortion in normal peoples thinking in these matters while not a constant scource of amazement might be a constant scource of something else. > NOTE: DETOXIFICATION > Starting on MSM, some users notice signs of an initial > detoxification. " Are you insinuating that the posting person has distorted thinking, or what? I've read some of your posts before, and I guess I cannot figure out whether you are here to be helpful, or to be hurtful to others.
