Guest guest Posted March 1, 2006 Report Posted March 1, 2006 We used to have an acquaintance making bottles of a baseball glove cleaner & conditioner. A liquid. It might be similar. Some of ingredients: beeswax, carnauba wax ,tallow & some lanolin, plus a little bit of a surfactant, and an emulsifier ,water , and I think a solvent of some kind (very little). The solvent used to be turpentine. Some people think of saddle soap as just a conditioner and other formulations have a cleaning (surfactant part) function. The solvent I am guessing is in it to clean and then dry as it evaporates . Then you would wipe the dirt off. The oils, waxes would stay put and go in to the leather. Nowdays many pros that work with leather in the car detailing business, motorcylce dealers (leather seats) and horse tack shops will say they use a seperate cleaner and then another product for moisturizing and protecting. SOme protectants besides those mentioned above wouldbe the neatsfool oils and the mink oil. Hope this helps some. MEH > > I am trying to formulate a saddle soap recipe.
