51 years old.

Thirty plus years of sound, and recording,I enjoy music at a decent loudness. I

enjoy full spectrum range of hearing.

I can not stand the ultra low frequency bass comming out of the suped up car

stereos.

I also get extremly annoyed by the " Baha mufflers "

I feel like I might be loosing my mind because the intesity of the the sounds

seem to intensify when I go into the house.

It seems that the walls seem to filter out mid range and high frequencies

making the LF appear to be more intense.

I feel like the robot in the movie " Meet Dave " when he put on the headphones

and became disoriented by the intenity of the bass.

we all get you!! I grew up in the "woods"...now I live in a city...but when I visit friends who still live in the country...the morning is just a constant but slow sound of cars driving by...makes me feel so lonely...I guess what I mean to say is that living in a big city....NYC....some noises all go together...can't take the Quiet being interrupted by cars...I really do not like that...but in the city..there are so many noises...plus I use that white sound machine...can't live without it...and the AC helps alot in the summer....I went from one extreme to another...my choice would be to work in a very noisy place these days...never a quiet one...that never worked out for me...like if there were machines making sounds to cover all the annoying sounds would work out better....now I am a nanny...during the week, weekends off....BUT if the kid lived in a building where I could hear the neighbors playing music or whatever I would leave the job right away!! Could not handle that! It sucks. Today I am doing OK...I hope things do not change for me right now...being 53...hard to start over all the time!! My home situation is OK right now as well...but boy, I have paid my dues...believe me!! It could all change tomorrow...that is also a huge stress for us...today is great but tomorrow I might have a band moving in next door that wants to practice all the time!! Was that a rambling vent or did you guys understand my speech??? I re read it .... even hard for me to realize if that was spaced out or not!! Whatever...I believe you know where I am coming from! At least I hope so!LoveRandomPiaTo: Soundsensitivity From: jwisinski@...Date: Mon, 12 Jul 2010 18:22:17 -0700Subject: RE: i'm new to this group

I'm glad to read about someone else who can't stand the sound of cars going by. (Obviously not glad that causes discomfort for someone else; glad that I'm not the only one.) I'm unsure if it's the low bass from music you're talking about, though, or the sounds of the cars themselves? For me, it's the sound of the cars in and of itself. It's literally painful; I feel like someone is taking a knife and scraping my bones. The odd part is that if I'm near a road where the cars are going, say, 55, that doesn't bother me. But if cars are going 25, that hurts! And I find it impossible to get others, who don't have 4S, to understand that.

Welcome! You're in good company here, and a lot of people have mentioned how sounds differ and can be worse when heard through walls - so you're not losing your mind! I had my windows replaced in a soundproofing program because I live near the airport, but my son says that although it might be quieter overall, for him it's a lot worse because the low frequencies sound different (and awful) now through the walls. He also can't stand the very low bass from cars going by. If you go through the archives, you'll see a lot of suggestions for using fans for whitenoise, downloading white, brown or pink noise, earphones (and favorite tunes) to cover up noises . . . We have both noise-cancellation headphones and a white noise machine in our house. You have lots of support here!
