Guest guest
I'm wondering how those of you young folks who have placards got one. What's the criteria? I don't have one, but believe me, I have just sobbed for not having one on my really bad days (which are many). Everywhere I go I feel like it's miles to where I have to get to when I step out of the car. A normal 30 second jaunt into the grociery store can take me 5-10 minutes sometimes, and I walk weird and feel like everyone's staring at me thinking " what the hells' the matter with her? she's young and looks great, nothings wrong with her " . I wish I had a big sign that read " endometriosis is flarring- excrutiating abdominal pain today-can't stand up straight " or another for my arthritis that said " arthritis flaring today-caution-young looking girl may infact be an old lady in disguise! " Some days are fine (mostly in summer and warm weather) and I enjoy the walk, but some days it's all I can do to get in and out of the car, let alone walk around somewhere. I've never asked my doc about it becuase I feel like a complaining baby. How could I approach the subject? or does he get to decide when? thanks, jules
Guest guest
i went to the registry of motor vehicles and got the form that your doctor needs to sign. the form will tell you where to bring it for your placard. my big problem was the denial thing at 45 years old needing a handicap card. if you can get past the whole denial thing, getting a placard is quite easy really! go for it karen
Guest guest
Jules ask about getting a handicap placard, this is one thing I know for sure; everyone on Social Security Disability already qualify. You show the DMV your disability determination and they put it on their computer and you qualify for plates and placards. No need to bother your doc. Here is the gage I used to determine when I needed to get mine: if you are driving past the store when you need important things, Like toilet paper, just because you hurt too bad to stop, it's time to get your plates or placard. I went through several boxes of tissues and sometimes paper towels until I realized I passed the above mentioned test! Now I send hubby to the warehouse stores to get it by the case. The other thing Jules mentioned that I HATE, the looks you get from 'normals' because they have no clue what is going on inside of you and you look normal on the outside. I try to ignore the looks and I always have my documentation ready just in case somebody asks, so far nobody has. Cheryl/Tx.
