Hi Amy,

I'm not sure if this question got answered:

<<i've been reading the files section and i

had two questions.

-i was going to go get some calcium and

magnesium supplements. does

the amount you should take depend at all upon

body weight? i'm just

asking because i'm not a big person - 105

lbs - and didn't want to

take too much if that's a factor.

-also, i'm vegetarian and assume i may be

missing somethings from not

eating meat/fish. what supplements would be

recommended specifically

to augment a vegetarian diet?>>

The amounts of calcium and magnesium are fine

for you. I'm glad you asked, though, because

this kind of information can be important.

Regarding vegetarianism--your body really,

really needs protein to heal. Do you eat

eggs/dairy?

thanks kim.

yes i eat dairy products. i usually have some cheese everyday. eggs

maybe once a week. i usually just put milk in coffee and tea, don't

drink glasses of milk. i probably get most of my protein from soy-

based products, which i eat a lot.

thx,

a.

Hi Amy,

You said:

<<<<yes i eat dairy products. i usually have

The reason you need protein for healing is

because it contains amino acids. Meat and

fish are the richest sources of amino acids.

In order to get what they need, females need

45 grams of protein a day. You need even

more when you are trying to heal.

Eggs do have the right kinds of

proteins--rich in amino acids--but you would

have to eat eight eggs a day in order to get

enough.

I'm not sure about yogurt and cheese--I'll

have to look those up. Dairy is not a useful

food in recovery unless it is in fermented

form like yogurt or cheese. Milk tends to

cause inflammation.

Plant foods, nuts and seeds are poor sources

of the amino acids needed for healing. The

protein in soy is different from the protein

in meat--unfortunately, they are not

interchangeable.

Take a look at the Healing Protocol, under

Supplements in the Files

wal_and_Recovery/files/) for information on

the kinds of supplements you need to get

started.

Please communicate with us about the things

you try and how they work for you.

I hope this is helpful.

Warm regards,

Kim

do not have amino acids needed for healing.

only meat has that. eggs can do it, but

you'd have to eat 8 eggs a day. Females need

45 grams--need more thsn that when trying to

heal. all about the amino acids--that's why

protein is important

High biological value foods contain high

amounts of amino acids. meat fish, eggs fall

into this category

low biolo value foods don't contain enough

amino acids. plant foods, nuts and seeds are

in this category. Soy is a plant food
