thanks for the advice. I am really looking forward to see if there will be any

improvement in his behavior. Thanks,

Something I've personally found is more directly related to her

between eating something with any tiny bit of soy in it and the worst

I haven't seen a cookbook yet that doesn't include things

you " shouldn't " eat.

FOODS YOU CAN EAT:

Beef

Pork

Fish

Seafood

Fowl

Eggs

Butter

Coconut oil

Olive oil

Stay away from processed meats like sausages, lucheon meats, etc.

Arugula

Asparagus

Beet Greens (but not beets)

Boc Choy

Broccoli

Brussel Sprouts

Cabbage

Cauliflower

Celery

Cucumber

Garlic

Green Beans

Kale

Kohlrabi

Leek

Olives

Onion

Spinach

Swiss Chard

Tomato

Zuchinni

possibly raw carrots but not cooked

cheese may be ok too

FOODS NOT TO EAT

potatoes

corn

peas

sweet potatoes

dried beans

rice

flours

grains

breads

That's all I can think of right now. Try to use fresh foods whenever

possible.

Summer squash appears to be ok, but not winter squash. You might try

a bit of fruit to see if you have any reaction. Some say no fruit at

all, others say some fruits are ok and some not. I found that I

could eat fresh peaches ok. I ate just a few slices at first, but

was able to eat a whole peach without any problem. I also tried just

a few small slices of apple without any reactions. I had seen

somewhere that blueberries should be ok too, but I couldn't eat those

at all without having a reaction. You'll have to experiment with

small amts to see if it bothers you or not and if it seems ok, only

eat small portions occasionally.

Gail, do not be fooled nor decieve anyone else about this business of

trying a little fruit and thinking it is OK if you don't have a reaction

right away. You may not even notice the candida GOURGING on something

until you tongue turns white a few days later!! It EATS ALL fruit.

It is VERY easy to be misled because we are all so STARVED for fruit and

carbs. You really have to be determined to beat off the yeast once you

get a bad case of it.

No, I wasn't fooled :) I first realized I had candida when I got an

awful case of oral thrush. Besides the inside my mouth, I had swollen

lips with sores and cracks in them. I would get an immediate reaction

in my mouth if I ate anything that was too high in carbs or had the

tiniest bit of sugar. Peaches did not give me any reaction at all at

any time. I only tried eating the peaches at a time when I was getting

lightheaded and dizzy all the time - to the point that I couldn't even

drive. I had been following the diet very strictly and didn't know

what else to do. I tried a few slices of peach - no reaction at all. I

wasn't craving fruit (though I did a first) and I didn't eat much, just

a few slices each day and my lightheadedness went away. After fresh

peaches were out of season, I didn't have any more, but wasn't getting

the dizziness anymore either. I think I had one more period of slight

dizziness and tried a few slices of apple.

I certainly don't want to deceive anyone into thinking that any fruit

is ok to eat or that it won't feed the yeast. Some fruits are lower in

fructose than others and I know from my own experience that small amts

of certain fruits were ok for me. They might not be ok for someone

else. Heck, I've seen many posts where people have reactions

to " recommended " foods on the diet while others don't.

Some research I had done a while back on fructose in fruit: " " The

important distinction is that in fruit the quantity of fructose is

small and it is bound to complex plant fiber, nutrients and minerals.

Because of this fructose contained in fruit is slowly released into

the bloodstream and fruits are considered a valuable protection

against cardiovascular disease and other health problems because of

their powerful anti-oxidant qualities. "

" One peach contains 4.7 g sucrose, 1.9 g glucose, 1.5 g fructose. "

Everything else I read says the liver changes fructose to glycogen and

when glucose levels in the blood begin to drop the liver quickly

converts the glycogen into glucose. Problems occur when the liver is

filled to capacity with glycogen and then it is released into the blood

stream as fatty acids. This would occur if one is eating an excess of

refined sugars/fructose. "

Hi gail,

I read your post and was surprised to see that you

dont react to all foods. I too only had reactions to

certain foods, but i do have a heavier coating on my

tongue at times. Some friuts create a stronger

reaction on my tongue and so do breads at times.

How does one know when they have this under control?

My only reaction is my tongue. All of the other

symptoms like brain fog, muscle acheness, fatigue, ect

have completely gone. This is why i am confused as to

if i still have this overgrowth. My dietician does

not think so she thinks i have a reaction to certain

foods as maybe an allergy.

I am confused as to what to eat and how to continue

with this diet.

Summer squash is usually picked during the summer like zucchini,

pattypan, yellow crookneck. Winter squash is usually harvested at the

end of summer like butternut, hubbard, acorn.

The exception seems to be spaghetti squash which is really a winter

squash but is ok to eat. I'm guessing the winter squash are higher in

carbs.

If you're still getting the coated tongue - oral thrush - then you

probably want to be stricter with your diet. It's yeast and it grows

thicker in your mouth when you eat foods that feed it.

I'd say you're cured when it's totally gone in your mouth and you

don't get any more coating after eating -- or any other symptoms you

may have had in the past. You may have to eat a modified diet for

the rest of your life. At least that's what I'm thinking for

myself. I doubt I'll ever be able to eat all the carbs I used to -

like bread every day, etc.

There were only a couple of things that I didn't seem to react to and

I didn't eat them all the time.

I'm at a point where I've added a few things to my diet that I seem

to be handling well with no reactions. But I still cannot eat any

grains, breads, sugars, etc.

Ok today i have a sub sandwich with tuna and my tongue

is very thickly white tonight. I wonder if it is a

reaction to the breads. I have not had white breads

or pasta in about a year and a half. That is the only

thing i did not got back to.

I can have half of a sweet potato once ina while and i

do eat brown rice bread without and reaction to my

tongue.

I thought a white tongue was coming from my digestive

track. Although i have not gas or trouble with bowel

actions.

I was once told i had a severe allergy to wheat so i

wonder.

It's probably the bread. The brown rice bread might be ok for you.

I can't eat any breads yet. I even tried making some flat breads with

yeast free and gluten free flours and couldn't eat those either. But

I can eat small servings of sweet potatoes too and of brown rice. I

recently threw some red potatoes and carrots in my stew and seemed to

be ok with that also. I'm careful not to over do it though.

The overgrowth of candida starts in your digestive tract and it can

show up in many ways and one is the oral thrush. Up until a few

months ago, whenever I ate something too high in carbs my oral thrush

would come back with a vengeance. Then I hadn't had any problems

until last week when I ate something I knew I shouldn't have :) --

now it's back and I'm suffering cause this bout is really sore and

painful.

Could either be the tuna and the mercury or maybe the carbs. Tuna

because of mercury always caused a reaction in me. Likewise work in

the dentist on a filling caused a really big reaction.

I agree with this. Tuna can be one of the worst for mercury

contamination. Ive been poisoned by eating a can of Tuna before with

mercury poisoning symptoms.

Mercury encourages candida overgrowth, as does any other toxicity.

Could be the bread that was eaten for sure. Could be either. Stay

away from both. They are not good in any candida condition.

hi gail,

thanks for the post reply.

I kinda thought it was the bread also because if came

immediately after eating it. It is a bit clearer this

morning but when i look at my kids tongues, mine looks

foreign! It never hurts and that is why my doc does

not think it is thrush. Just a food sensetivity of

some kind.

How does dairy affect you? If i put cream in my

coffee( one cup in the am only) it seems to be a bit

whiter again.

But after one chemo session bam its gone! I am curiou

when i stop chemo this week Thank You God!, how my

tongue will react. After my surgery everything

cleared up tremendously, which was proabably the under

lieing reason for the over growth.

Thanks

sue

It won't necessarily hurt, but sometimes when it gets bad it does. I

haven't tried any dairy other than cheese and that seems to be ok for

me. Well, I tried ice-cream and cannot eat that - dang :) That's

part of the reason my oral thrush is back. Besides eating something

else I shouldn't have, I ate some ice-cream - just cause I was having

a weak moment I guess.

I don't drink coffee and don't have anything to put milk on anymore

since I gave up cereal. I used to always drink milk with my meals but

now I only drink water.

Glad you're almost done with the chemo. I can't imagine having to go

through all of that.

Foods do have a part in JA. Gluten is 1. Sugars can as well. If you look at what you eat and then eliminate certain foods. You may find you will also feel better. Sugar for kids has always been a factor in ADHD, ADD.

Remember also sugars come in many forms. It's not just Candy and Cookies and Cakes which contain Sugars. Potatoes like potato chips can play just as bad. Try eliminating ALL white foods and see how you feel. Moms out there after you eat do you feel bloated? Umm blame it on what you have just ate. White breads will do it to you.

Fried foods isn't good for Arthritis either. If you want to try and see if foods are causing some issues. Go with a ALL veggie meals. in a week see how you feel and the child. Drink more water than sweet drinks too.

Look at labels for MSG as well. This is a no no

Sugar definitely makes our daughter's symptoms worse as well. We also give her 200 mg. of fish oil capsules daily and eat more fish since her diagnosis, it does seem to reduce morning inflammation. That is interesting about wheat ---- wonder if it's the gluten? jatwill@... wrote: We have found that sugar aggravates our son's swelling, and that he generally does better without wheat too. Thanks I will let you know how things are going with diet issue. Also the issue with anger and JRA is true. Joe is really easy to fly off the handle. Hi Stef and welcome to our group! I am glad that you have found us.

I noticed in other posts people were discussing who they talk to

about JRA and how they cope with the stress. I have found this group

to be my saving grace for that. I come here for research ideas,

support, encouragment and often a good laugh.

To be honest, outside of this forum I don't really discuss Aundrea or

her disease much with others. They know about her arthritis but its

not something that I bring up often.

You asked I think about dentists and problems with jra. Recently in

my research and from here I learned that TMJ is often associated with

jra. My daughter, Aundrea is 11 and has complained of jaw pain for

over a year. She was recently diagnosed with tmj. There might also

be considerations to be made about dental hygiene if your child has

jra that affects his wrist or fingers which could challenge his

ability to do a good job with brushing his teeth.

The other thing I saw was that you mentioned diet considerations. We

have tried quite a few different diets with our daughter. Currently,

she eats pretty much whatever she wants and has a farily healthy

diet. We give her whole food supplement that is 100% organic and

goes directly to the cells. It has liquid aloe vera in it along with

marine phytoplankton and a a host of other minerals and vitamins. I

believe Aundrea's skin looks a lot healthier since we started her on

it and the rash seems to have diminished. Its difficult to say if it

has impacted her arthritis or not. Currently, she is doing great but

I would hesitate to say that its any way directly related to diet.

In any case our entire family and extended family does use this

product called FrequenSea and we have each noticed some improvements

in different areas...particulary improved energy and wellness. If

you want more info on it you can visit www.fuel4thecell.com or email

me offline.

Again, I am so glad that you found our group and I know that you will

be blessed by some awesome new cyberfriends! :-)

LCL,

You can quickly undo all the good by eating

junk. It is the yeast that is crying for sugar. You are just feeding it.
