Pregnancy & hypothyroidism

Dear List,

I have a patient coming tonight who has hypothyroidism (autoimmune

variety is what I have been told) and doesn't want to take thyroxine

during her pregnancy, wants to use herbs instead. This is her 3rd

pregnancy, and I understand that she developed this during her 1st,

which then worsened during her 2nd. I don't know anymore information

than that at the moment unfortunately. I have looked in various books

to see what would be appropriate but nothing seems too optimistic using

herbs and it seems that the general advice is to take the thyroxine,

supporting with herbs.

I have looked in the archives regarding hypothyroidism and was wondering

if anyone had treated this condition during pregnancy?

Thanks and best wishes,

Kate
