Methadone Questions for Group

My doctor switched me to Methadone today since I had a reaction to the

patches. I was previously on Percocet, lortab and oxycontin for severe

back pain. Does methadone work as well as OC or other type pain rx's?

I am not familiar with it. I thought it was for drug addicts. Any side

effects or reactions I need to be aware of? He is starting me on 5mg 3

x's a day. I was on OC 20mg 4-6 times a day. Does anyone know how the

dosage compares? I had hives with Fentyl patch and nausea. I couldnt

keep down food and lost 9lbs in 2 wks. Is it necessary to eat before

taking the Methadone? I guess not knowing anything about the drug

makes me hesitant to start taking it. Thanks for any information.
