Guest guest
My 4.5 yr old spiked a fever in the wee hours--about 101. He was complaining of a headache and was rather lethargic so I gave him motrin at 8 am. (He was crying from the headache) By 10:30 he was feeling better and wanted to go with his dad to take big brother to karate. Since it was a short trip and Dad was going to get him a Jamba Juice smoothie, we though it would be ok. When they were out at about 11:30 or so, my son spiked another fever, got very lethargic/sleepy again, and started to drool massively. My husband thought Kai was going to throw up, so they found a bathroom. He said Kai did respond, but his eyes were unfocused and he was very spacey. He took Kai straight to urgent care, and the temp was 102 (within 4 hours of a dose of motrin). The doc on call floated the idea of the seizure, but we can't be certain and he did respond to his dad at least once. They're at the lab right now doing some blood draws to rule out bacterial infections. It's not strep and it's not a UTI. In case it was a seizure, we have to be very vigilant to keep the fever at bay and have been advised to alternate motrin and tylenol (yuck) every 4 hrs. What else can we do? I have some homeopathic belladonna, 2 boxes of fruit only popsicles. And of course it's 90 degrees today. We just have never dealt with the possibility of seizures and we are, frankly, freaking out. This little guy isn't ASD, but he has delays, gross and fine motor delays, yeast, heavy metals, and is a fairly intense personality. Thanks, Jill "Every mighty oak was once a nut that stood its ground."
Guest guest
Sounds like brain inflammation. The problem is trying to figure out which pathogen. It could be one he has been having and his body is now starting to fight, or it could be a new one he picked up. I always give orange juice when my kids get like this, and it makes a big difference. My two acute pathogen-killers are Takuna and Samento, but I don't think I ever had one have such a strong, acute reaction that you are describing. Keep us posted; we pray for his recovery. Guest guest
Kids with decreased immune function can have seizures. Couple of things to do, put cool soaks on his feet - this is one way to help bring the fever down. Lots of cool drinks. Also liquid calcuim - helps bring the fever down fast, as caluim is being drawn from the bones during fevers, thats why it helps. I would suggest child's asprin but fear Rhetts' syndrome at his young age. Sorry you have had deal with this scare. Let us knwo what you find out. Guest guest
Thanks so much. I happen to have both OJ and liquid calcium in the fridge. I just had a msg from my DH that they're on their way back from the lab. Jill "Every mighty oak was once a nut that stood its ground."
