Guest guest Posted May 20, 2004 Report Share Posted May 20, 2004 It's interesting to hear different peoples intake on this med. I was on Neurontin for almost 1 year and was totally miserable on it. My 1st 2 neuros kept upping the doses. I was trying to care for my 2 little kids (then 2 and 4) and grasp the thought of being dx with MS with Neurontin...me and that just didn't gel. Now the Topamax instantly worked. But now I am wondering if I am beginning to have long term problems with it possibly? I am going to be having a physical and don't know if my meds are to blame for my continual abdominal discomfort over the past year (and my belly is hardening and bloating). I am finally to the point of accepting that it is time to go and have that annual thing done, something that I haven't had done since my dx which is almost 3 years now. Just a distant thought, wondering if my meds have anything to do with other health problems that are popping up. I was a completely healthy person 3 1/2 years ago. I WAS HAVING BOWEL PROBLEM EVEN WHEN I WAS NOT TAKING MEDS BUT NOW THEY ARE ALOT WORSE BECAUSE MOST OF MY MEDS ONE OF THE FIRST SIDE EFFECTS IS DIARRHEA. DOES YOUR ABDOMINAL DISCOMFORT FEEL LIKE YOU HAVE FALLEN AND LANDED ON IT FIRST? ARE THERE TIMES THAT IT IS ACTUAL PAIN INSTEAD OF DISCOMFORT? IF MEMORY SERVES YOU ARE ABOUT THE SAME AGE AS I WAS WHEN I HAD SIMULAR SYSTOMS. NO MATTER YOU ARE WAY PAST DO FOR A PHYSCIAL. MY NEURO TOLD ME TO TRY TO STAY AS HEALTHY AS I CAN BECAUSE THE MS WILL ADD COMPLACATIONS AND THE ILLNESS MAY EFFECT THE MS. Guest guest Posted May 21, 2004 Report Share Posted May 21, 2004 Awhile back I had terrible bloating & stomach hardening, but topamax got rid of it. And now I'm on zonegran & I don't have the problem at all. I got side effects from the topamax from zits to horrible itching. Plus, it made me hot. Yes, it's a mood stabilizer - and used for seizures!
