Guest guest
Hi Jim, I take dessicated thyroid-- I know Armour is available again after a shortage a while back, I also took nature-throid about 6 months ago. I would recommend both. Hi , Is there still dessicated thyroid meds available? If so, what ones do you know of? Guest guest
Armour has been " re-formulated " some people like it - many do not. Everyone just needs to try it. I have been having my dessicated thyroid compounded - about $100 for a 3 month supply (well really more than three months. That was for 200 capsules compounded to 1 grain/60 mg each.) Remember to keep this stuff in the freezer. L
Guest guest
, that wouldn't surprise me because I've heard that it is the filler that was changed. (So sad, they messed with a good product. Maybe it was the only way to get the FDA approval they shouldn't have had to fight for. ) I’ve heard that if you crush Armour that it works like it used to! I think I heard that on Janie’s blog or something. Don’t quote me on that! LOL! Guest guest
Just now looked for the beginning of this thread! LOL! Sorry! Yes, there are several out there. Naturthroid and Westhroid are the two I’m familiar with. I’m sure there are others. Some people were upset with Armour because of the reformulation, but apparently if you crush the ‘new’ Armour it works like the old Armour. For the last 2 years, I’ve taken my thyroid sublingually so I don’t have to fret about taking it around food. Crushing it and/or taking it under the tongue seems to work for many people! Guest guest
, you are a treasure trove when it comes to the thyroid! Since dessicated thryoid came back on the market, I have wondered about the new formulation. I now need to take a slightly higher dose. I am going to try it sublingually or by crushing. What I want to know is, how does it taste? Do you need to chase it with something to counteract nasty taste? I am thinking of MMS which makes me gag and I just can't get the process over with soon enough. Guest guest
Hi , If you're taking Armour, the new formulation cannot be taken sublingually-- this is one of the things that upset so many people. Guest guest
STTM has a whole page on how to take the new Armour formulation sublingually. Here it is: http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/2009/06/18/tips-on-how-to-do-desiccated-thyroid-sublingually/ It's apparently not as easy to take sublingually as the old Armour was, but it can be done. Peggy Re: Re: OT: Dessicated thyroid meds (WAS) symptom list for coinfections?- Hi , If you're taking Armour, the new formulation cannot be taken sublingually-- this is one of the things that upset so many people. I'm not sure if naturethorid is available (im using a compounding pharmacy), but that can be taken sublingually, so I would look into it. Guest guest
I can’t believe I was able to find this, but this is where I got the info about crushing the pills! Or you can chew it up! She says you can take it with a little honey to tolerate it. http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/2010/04/25/how-to-make-reformulated-armour-and-naturethroid-work/ I’m thinking you could crush it, then put it under your tongue, if you can stand it! I personally feel that sublingual is best so you don’t have to worry about taking it around food! The old Armour tasted kind of good, but I have no idea about the new one. I take my T3 sublingual… didn’t mean to confuse you about the Armour. :S I meant you can take some thyroid meds sublingual (like mine) or crush some (like Armour). Darn Lyme brain! Can’t you read my mind and know what I mean? LOL! Oh, that was sweet of you to say ! It took me a long time of repeated reading about thyroid before it finally got into my swiss cheese brain! LOL! I’m still trying to get some of it straight but every once in a while something sticks! J Take care! Since dessicated thryoid came back on the market, I have wondered about the new formulation. I now need to take a slightly higher dose. I am going to try it sublingually or by crushing. I'm going back to Armour after I run out of my compounded stuff--- for financial reasons, so that is good to know!Whitney Whitney, I use the new Armour sublingually! LOL! Guest guest
Thank you Whitney. Maybe if I crush it and hold it under my tongue? That way it would absorb faster I think.
