Guest guest
Newfies! When I was younger I read two books about a girl-woman who had cerebral palsy, and she had a newfie assist dog. I swore that I'd have one when I grew up and had my own place. Then it was collies; german shepards; standard bred poodles-if you see the pattern, I wanted a dog that I could look up to!. Unfortunately, on my own and working shift work as a nurse, busy with activities like ballet, I didn't have time to give a dog what the dog needs; so I got a cat or two. Then I got a husband, horribly allergic. My family knew that it was serious when I gave up the cat....(sigh) I miss the pets, but I'd rather have my hubby! It's just that I have so many symptoms that mirror MS and other diseases I have. I found out about this website from someone on the Transverse Myelitis group, they are a wonderful group of people. I never could have coped with this stuff without them. From what I have seen briefly from this group you already have welcomed me. I am overwhelmed from your support without even writing yet. Sharon was kind enough to sign me up very quickly and even had information regarding Lupus. I guess I should back up a bit about my health issues. I was diagnosed with TM in May of 1997. At first the doctor was sure it was MS but concluded it was TM instead but only after several weeks of tests. Then two years later they found Lupus and then Fibromyalgia followed. They are all autoimmune diseases and all are a real pain in one way or another. I have a good attitude which drives a lot of people nuts. I guess they can't understand you have to be positive to get along. I live in Upstate New York, just outside of Albany, NY on a very small lake. We are getting a ton of snow again. When Albany gets a foot of snow, we get at lease 18" because we live in the hills. My husband and I have 3 huge Newfoundland dogs and 2 house cats. They give me a reason to get up in the morning. I hope I didn't ramble on too much. Thanks again for making me feel welcome - especially Sharon for all her help.
Guest guest
Hi Sam, Are you the Sam on the TM site? For a couple of weeks I thought you were a guy.LOL I can't remember who set me straight, think it was Gilly. She's s kick huh? Your also the one that sent me here, right? Anytime you want a Newfie fix you can visit here. They slobber a lot but you do get used to it. When we got our first one I was running around with a towel all the time, that got old pretty quick. They have the absolute best temperaments and they even love our cats. We had a cat that loved our Newfie so much he slept under his jowls, I have pictures of it. When the dog died the cat didn't purr for a couple of years. We still have the cat and he purrs all the time. Have a good day.
Guest guest
Hi Sharon, My symptoms are much like TM, the weakness on one side. I have numbness in my left leg, both feet and my buttocks. I have trouble walking, sitting or standing for long periods. I trip and fall a lot so I mostly go barefoot, even outside in the snow on occasion. I only use a cane when I go out and occasionally use my walker if necessary. Some of my symptoms are from Lupus, like a terrible rash on my head, neck, chest, and arms. I lose my body hair when the flare-ups are bad, like last winter. I was a crazy lady with this one, even bought a wig. I have no sense of smell or taste, this one is tough to handle also. I miss the smell of so many things, even fresh air, food especially and flowers oh God where do I start or end. I don't sleep much unless I use medications and they make me feel like I have a hangover. Just recently I have been having problems with my memory, and just can't seem to find words that used to come easily. I'm sure there are more symptoms but I can't remember them all. --- LOL Thanks for your help. I applied to the Lupus group this morning so I'm hoping to gain information from there as well.
