Guest guest
I'm not giving the Miralax and Kids Calm together. She was on the Miralax for 2 months, from June to September so she has been off of it for two months. I'll try more Kids Calm. Is the probiotic to help with her tummy ache after she has the kids calm? I'll look for the Plum smart juice too. Thank you for the ideas. http://f1.grp.yahoofs.com/v1/4LgbS-K2tzJEC6tGWB_iKw4qAlX-57yztSVlM0sSJnguH9fBOeJJsqLfmF7UwNg8psrmhaotsqC2VKknSeNNMZ6kVRoIWJPrelZhn3OFPTLmPg/MSDS%20Miralax.pdf From: bestmom99cj <tjcj99hotmail (DOT) com>Subject: Re: my daughterTo: miralax@yahoogroups .comDate: Sunday, December 6, 2009, 6:03 AM I stopped the Miralax and I did almost the same as you: Natural Calm 1/2 tsp, fiber, & probiotics. Now my 7 year old is backed up. I gave her 1 + 1/2 tsp of miralax last night. I cannot make any recommendations, cause nothing except Miralax works for her. But I think your daughter is on the verge of becoming very backed up. see bristol stool chart on wikipedia: " Types 1 and 2 indicate constipation, with 3 and 4 being the " ideal stools " especially the latter, as they are the easiest to pass, and 5–7 being further tending towards diarrhoea or urgency. Guest guest
Senna tea would be good thing to try now. It will stimulate the bowels that got " lazy " due to Miralax or other reasons. This one is really mild http://www.iherb.com/Now-Foods-Senna-Tea-Caffeine-Free-30-Tea-Bags-2-oz-60-g/113\ 0?at=0 Or, Kidlax has been a good measure for us too -- very small capsules http://www.iherb.com/Renew-Life-KidLax-90-Veggie-Caps/11982?at=0 The tummy ache complaint is probably due to her needing to go and not related to the Kid's Formula Calm, but some kids don't do well with magnesium citrate. If your daughter doesn't like drinking OJ or lemonade, then she probably doesn't handle citric acid well. If that's the case, then another form of magnesium might work best like malate or glyconate, http://www.iherb.com/Source-Naturals-Magnesium-Malate-625-mg-200-Capsules/1268?a\ t=0 Have your tried epsom salt and baking soda baths? P.S. If you order anything from iherb, use this coupon code for $5 off. Guest guest
FWIW - problems urinating were also a sign of constipation (and start of withholding cycle) for us - and, in the end, eliminating foods he was intolerant of led to clearing up this problem. For us, the most significant improvements came with gluten-free, milk/casein/dairy-free, egg-free, corn-free, soy-free diet. We also had to avoid most of the gluten-free grains (quinoa, millet, sorghum, buckwheat, garfava/bean flours, etc.) - so an almost grain-free diet. As we dabbled in gluten-free using these alternative grains, he had urine/poop ups/downs that I finally correlated to certain " gluten-free " products and flours. At this point, we're GF/CF/EF/SF (re-introduced corn after 6 months elimination) and my 5 yr old (42lb) son gets about 500-600 mg magnesium and all is well for almost 2 years now. When he accidentally eats gluten, dairy/casein, soy, or egg - the urination issues and constipation/withholding flare up again and it takes us a week or more to work through it. I know an elimination diet seems overwhelming or too restrictive or for whatever reason seems to be the last thing a lot of parents want to try, but it makes a significant difference for so many people who try it (and really try it, not just reduce the certain food(s) but 100% eliminate). In the end, it's so much easier than trial/error on all kinds of supplements and having the unpredictability and stress (for parents and children) of the constipation/withholding. (Believe me, I was there for almost 2 years, before getting to my son's solution & I have many at this board to thank for pointing me in this direction!) Mag citrate (the form in Kid Calm) did not seem well-tolerated by my son, either - seemed to make the urination more uncomfortable. Guest guest
I just remembered, my son (age 3) had Type 1 & Type 2 stool on the Bristol Stool Chart. I gave him some juicy juice Immunity (sold at walmart) http://www.juicyjuice.com/products/Immunity.aspx Now his poops are very smooth. He drank lots of it though. Juicy Juice Immunity has Acacia in it. People on this board seem to like acacia for constipation. > > > > My daughter is having problems urinating again which is a sign that > she is getting constipated. > > > > I received the Kids Calm the other day and have given it to her 3 > times although I gave it to her the first day then skipped the second > day (for some forgotten reason now.)anpd gave it to her today and > yesterday. > > > > I have been giving her 1/2 a teaspoon. Guest guest
I don't know what to make of this Bristol Stool Chart...my daughter always has type 3 stools, but she has them only once every two or three weeks! yet according to the chart that means she is not constipated--huh? Bonniehttp://www.examiner.com/x-31096-Milwaukee-Holistic-Health-Examiner I just remembered, my son (age 3) had Type 1 & Type 2 stool on the Bristol Stool Chart. Guest guest
I find the chart useful to determine whether to give more or less of any cure for constipation. If child is Type 5, then too much medicines. I've read on this website for the child to have a BM everyday for the intestines to get back to shape. Two or three weeks would be constipated despite the stool chart. > > > > > > > > My daughter is having problems urinating again which is a sign that > > > she is getting constipated. > > > > > > > > I received the Kids Calm the other day and have given it to her 3 > > > times although I gave it to her the first day then skipped the second > > > day (for some forgotten reason now.)anpd gave it to her today and > > > yesterday. > > > > > > > > I have been giving her 1/2 a teaspoon.
