Guest guest
Well hang onto your hat Chris: It's routine! Chinese medicine includes an extensive array of animal and mineral bits including worms or Di Long as you mention. It's probably more cultural than anything else. What about all the women taking Premarin made from mares piss!?!! Lorraine Lorraine Hodgkinson MNIMH MRCHM HERBS AND HELPERS 6, Butts Fold, Cockermouth, Cumbria, CA13 9HY. UK. Guest guest
Or vaccines made from aborted foetal cells......... There has long been a debate in Chinese medicine about the use of animal products - some of which involve the death of beings. Others, such as oyster shell do not. Those who subscribe to Buddhist and Taoist philosophies tend to avoid those products which involve animal suffering or death. Guest guest
Never come across any debate it seems to be routine in all the TCM colleges I've studied in. What beings die? Guest guest
Lorraine, you ask " what beings die " - tigers, for example, are going extinct due to the Chinese medicine demand for various of their body parts. Rhinoceroses are another one. a
Guest guest
Both these animals are schedule 1 and trade/killing is prohibited globally for each. CITES places creatures in different categories specifically to prevent this. There are of course criminals in every sphere.
