Guest guest
Hey, folks! I know this has NOTHING to do with MDS, but I just wanted everyone to know that we have a veritable winter wonderland in Northern KY right now! Sunday afternoon, evening, and overnight we got a minor " shot " of snow -- enough to cancel school on Monday. Then, beginning after midnight Monday night/Tuesday morning a winter storm EVENT started! We got about 5 or so inches of snow in the first wave. Then, starting yesterday afternoon/evening and into the overnight we had freezing rain, laying down a solid sheet of ice about an inch deep. THEN, this morning, we got MORE snow -- somewhere between 3 and 5 inches! It's BEAUTIFUL! We've been off school all week and I honestly don't anticipate going back tomorrow! The temperature is not going above freezing for several days and it's even supposed to get down to 2 on Saturday! All this and I didn't even do a snow dance! I wonder what would have happened if I had! :-) The mayor of Cincinnati has declared today " Family Day. " He's instructing everyone to stay home and enjoy their families today! Combine that with the fact that you can be arrested for being out if you aren't emergency personnel and that tells me to stay snug as a bug in a rug! Have a happy day! Hope you've got some pretty stuff where you are!
Guest guest
This sounds like the norm in NW Indiana. We have had 24 inches of snow so far and it is supposed to snow tonight and tomorrow. We have had two snow days so far which is a lot for us. One of our snow days was for an ice storm like you described. Even here, I have never seen anything like that. We couldn't even walk outside much less drive a car. The day after of the ice storm, it warmed up and started raining - like thunderstorms. We live in the dunes on Lake Michigan. When it started raining on top of all the snow and ice, the sand dune behind our house collapsed and came down into our back yard. I would say without exaggerating, that we have 2 or 3 tons of sand in our yard. We have 4 tiers of flower beds, most of the grass and one deck are buried. I just love winter. Well enjoy your snow days . Are you required to make those days up later in the year. We do. Donna - (6 mds) gram Subject: Winter Wonderland! Guest guest
Sounds like you got part of the same storm system that we got! Yikes about your back yard! I hope everything is ok. They're calling for some " nuisance snow " tonight, but on top of everything we've already got, I anticipate more than a nuisance! Plus, there's another potential system coming through the early part of next week. It's too early to tell if it's gonna come through here or to our east, so right now it's " wait and see. " Yes, we have to make up the days. We built five days into our calendar, but we have now used those! We were supposed to have Presidents' Day off, but now we don't. We will be making up a snow day! Of course, Presidents' Day is in the middle of February and the last two or three Februarys in a row we've had a " whopper " right in the middle of the month! LOL! We may be going to school all summer! I'd rather make it up in June, though, than to risk life and limb to get there in the snow and ice -- or, worse yet, put my baby on a bus in this stuff! Stay warm! Hey! Maybe you can sell some of that sand in your back yard to the road department! There's a salt shortage this year, AND salt doesn't even work below 20 degrees. Could be a money maker! LOL! A. Special Educator Simon Kenton HS 11132 Madison Pk. Guest guest
Thank you for the very lovely images you painted for me down here in Houston! Sounds like lots of potential fun! I think I found a little frost on a weed in my back yard this morning. I know the dogs didn't want to step foot out the door due to the cold 34 degree temperatures. ________________________________ To: MosaicDS Sent: Wednesday, January 28, 2009 11:41:12 AM Subject: Winter Wonderland! Guest guest
Becky, I am so jealous! We are not going to get to the 40s until Sunday here in PA - My driveway is a giant ice flow and I have to walk down each morning and afternoon to get the kids from the bus. It is not fun - we had only one snow day - and we had a 2 hour delay that turned into a 3 hour delay for my kids as the bus got stuck and was really late to school. It is supposed to get up to 35 today but we are getting more snow with a high of 24 tomorrow - before our heat wave on Sunday 42! Guest guest
Yeah, Becky, this storm that's coming could either track " westerly " and dump a bunch of snow on us or track " easterly " and dump a bunch of snow on you! LOL! As much as I love snow, I think I'm kinda hoping YOU get to see it this time! We missed two days of school in September because of Hurricane Ike (yeah, you read that right. Ike decided to come inland and do some damage!). This is now our sixth snow day, meaning we've missed eight days so far. Our district banks five days, but after that we start going on days we were supposed to be off. We now have to go on Presidents' Day and two additional days at the end of the year. We really only have three more days to " play " with and then they will have to decide whether to tack on even more or add minutes to each day. I personally would prefer to add minutes to each day, but the last time that was suggested it was voted down. Who knows? I AM enjoying my unexpected winter vacation, though! :-) A. Guest guest
Darlene, Our high today is supposed to be 39 (right now it's only 30) then tomorrow.....56-59....it's just weird how one day it can be butt-cold and then the next almost warm....I'm surprised the boys haven't gotten sick yet. Sorry about the ice, please be careful! , are you doing okay? I heard on the news that most of Kentucky didn't have power, hopefully you're not one of them! Guest guest
I'll take the snow (well, at least Trey will LOL) we haven't had more than a dusting all winter! That's sooooo strange for us, usually we have had at least one dumping of snow by now. Our snow usually comes in Jan-Feb, but here it's Feb and we've had none, Trey is sooo disappointed (he likes sledding on ice, but prefers snow LOL) . I'd rather have the snow than the ice, at least Snow you can see...black ice not so much fun LOL So come girls, start blowing really hard and I'll take the snow for you!!! Guest guest
I am ok. We were fortunate not to lose our power. My brothers who live in Western KY, however, are not so lucky. Two of them are actually staying in a shelter right now. Thank God they are safe, but they're being told it could be three more weeks before the power is back on. Where they live, the gas pumps aren't even working. My cousin had to drive an hour away the other night just to get gas. A lot of places don't have water, not necessarily because of frozen pipes, but because the water department uses electricity for their pumps. Some places that do have water are under a boil water advisory. I was looking on the website of the tv station down there last night and they have a notice on there that the health department has closed all restuarants and food service facilities in certain areas because of the boil water advisory. Yes, Becky, you can HAVE this next storm! The local weather guy is calling it the " Alabama Intruder " because it's forming off the coast of Alabama! LOL! As of last night, it DID look like it is probably going to take the more easterly track and that is fine with me! As much as I love snow, I can't stand the thought of my brothers spending even LONGER in a shelter. A. Special Educator Simon Kenton HS 11132 Madison Pk. Guest guest
/Becky - I blew as hard as I could to force that cold stuff down to Becky - I don't think it worked though - it is only 22.8 degrees - I HATE winter - I usually don't mind it but usually we get some snow and then it melts and then we get more and it melts - but it has been Ice, Ice and more ice this year - only snow with ice and the temperatures have just not gotten up that high to melt any of it - even when we do have asphalt peeking through it just melts the snow around it and then gets cold and makes more ICE! I do hope you have power because I read about those power outages and they said MIDDLE OF FEBRUARY!!! That is a really long time to be without electricity. (We have a well, and no power means no water - and no toilets!) Guest guest
I suggest that everyone fill their bathtubs up with water (in between baths) in case you loose water you will have some extra to clean up and flush toilets. Also, be sure you have at least a week's worth of food and drinking water in case you loose power. (and be sure to have a manual can opener!) Stay warm! Guest guest
Sounds like the weather in TX is as bad as KY weather where consistency is concerned! It's JUST February 2nd. I can't IMAGINE what the rest of February -- and even March -- might have in store. Last year the first weekend of March, we actually had a blizzard that dumped a foot of snow on us! Of course, it came on the heels of warmer weather AND it warmed up again pretty quickly, so it didn't stick around long. A. Special Educator Simon Kenton HS 11132 Madison Pk. Guest guest
It warmed up a little here yesterday - just enough to cause my driveway to be covered in ice when it refroze overnight. We are expecting 3 more inches tonight and still have about a foot on the ground. Funny thing is Adam hates the snow. He won't wear his boots and if it gets on his shoes he freaks out. His stepdad has to carry him to and from the bus everyday. He has always been like this. When he was little, he would not step on the grass either. At least he got over that. Anyway, Trey and Austin can have all of Adam's snow. lol Donna > > > We had two days of no school due to Ice.....we, like you are > > waiting to see what this next system will bring...we here in VA were > > wondering if we were gonna use our snow days or not this year because > until > > this week, all we had were delays in school starting. > > And yes, VA is having a heat wave...high today is supposed to peak at 43 > > LOL! > > > > Blessings Abound, > > (Becky) Rowe, EMT-B > > Mom to Trey (9 ADHD) & Austin (6 MDS) > > http://www.firstgiv <http://www.firstgiv /> ing.com/awesomea ustin < > http://www.firstgiv <http://www.firstgiv /> ing.com/awesomea ustin> > > ____________ _________ _________ __ > > > > Family Assistance Coordinator > > www.imdsa.org or beckyimdsa (DOT) org <becky%40imdsa. org> <mailto: > becky%40imdsa. org <becky%2540imdsa. org>> <becky%40imdsa. org> > > " Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift, that > is > > why it is called the present " --(Master Oogway, Kung Fu Panda) > > > > ____________ _________ _________ __ > > From: Bolduc <jhunter5431@ charter.net< jhunter5431% 40charter. net><mailto: > jhunter5431% 40charter. net <jhunter5431% 2540charter. net>> <jhunter5431% > 40charter.net> > > > > > To: MosaicDS@yahoogroup s.com <MosaicDS%40yahoogr oups.com> <mailto: > MosaicDS%40yahoogro ups.com <MosaicDS%2540yahoo groups.com> > <MosaicDS% > 40yahoogroups. com> > > > Sent: Thursday, January 29, 2009 1:45:04 PM > > Subject: Re: Winter Wonderland! > > > > My brother in law lives outside of Quebec City Quebec and they are > > expecting 24 to 36 inches of snow !! Guest guest
I am beyond sick of winter - annoying ground hog said six more weeks! In southeastern PA we are supposed to get rain tonight (hopefully that will take care of any remaining ice we have) then it is supposed to get cold and we are to get snow late tonight and tomorrow - only one to two inches I hope they don't cancel school because if they do, then we will have school on Easter Monday and I was hoping to go up to my parents for Easter this year - in CT where they know how to deal with some snow. With any luck we WILL have school and they won't be wimps and cancel school. Donna, I hope Adam is light because if I had to, I could not carry down and up to the bus stop - she would have to deal with the snow - I can NOT carry her.
