Guest guest
Hi Tamsin, I would opt for calendula. Frequent baths, washes etc for both mother and baby, internal tea or tr every couple of hours for the mother as this will be passed through in the milk. You could add immune herbs too and also Pau d arco. Generally I would avoid garlic as it can cause colic, but this would depend on how much garlic the mother ate during pregnancy and since birth. You could suggest that the mother eats garlic or give her a garlic tr as a simple and advise that if it may cause colic and to stop using it if it does. The mother could use diluted tea tree on her nipples after feeding and wash off before the next feed, but this would not be my first choice. Tea-tree may irritate if the nipples are cracked. I would try calendula washes and or ointment first as this may work on its own for the thrush and help heal the nipples. I have found symphytum and calendula ointment made with beeswax works wonders for cracked nipples. Natural probiotic yoghurt eaten and applied the nipples would be better than t-tree. The baby is too young to be given yoghurt internally, but externally it would be fantastic - really soothing for the nappy area. The mother could also apply the tea tree to her breast avoiding the area the baby will be in contact with and cracked nipples as it will be absorbed into the blood stream and be passed in safe quantities to the baby. Hope this helps. Jean newborn with candida Please advise!! Any recommendations for a 4 week old baby with candida: oral, fungal nappy rash and possibly intestinal (abdominal distension & flatulance)? This following either - antibiotic eye drops for eye infection (at 10 days old) or infection from a dummy someone gave him during circumcision, at 8 days. He is breastfed and there is also thrush on Mother's sore & cracked nipples. Current treatment is with daktarin gel - oral for baby and to apply to nipples, which seem to be more painful when cream applied. Here are some initial questions: - Might tea tree essential oil, if applied to the Mother's nipple, irritate the baby or put him off feeding (even if washed before the breast was offered to him?) - Is it relevant to use probiotics? - Could garlic, taken by the Mother be beneficial or cause colic? - Could a cream exacerbate the nappy rash? With many thanks and little experience! Tamsin _________________________________________________________________ Express yourself instantly with MSN Messenger! Guest guest
Hi Tamsin Years ago Helen Stapleton gave a lecture at NIMH conference and i think it was her who said place geranium leaves (that's the ordinary ones - around now and avavilbale for hanging baskets etc) in bra like breast pad - great for cracked nipples. And no harm to baby. If I've got the wrong person, please forgive me - but the info is correct. ======================================== Message Received: May 31 2006, 12:19 PM From: " Alison Morton " To: ukherbal-list Cc: Subject: RE: newborn with candida Hello Tamsin Fennel and cinnamon are also anti fungal; fennel has the advantage of promoting breast milk and easing colic Alison Morton >From: " Riddell " >Reply-To: ukherbal-list >To: >Subject: RE: newborn with candida >Date: Sat, 27 May 2006 22:43:05 +0100 > >Hi Tamsin, >I would opt for calendula.
