I remember as a child, at least in the 40's cigarettes were called

coffin nails, gaspers, nicotine sticks and a little later cancer sticks.

I was a smoker, now clean 35 years. I knew people who had terrible

hacking coughs, and still held a smoking butt in their mouth most of the

day. A notice in the paper about a man who went to sleep wwith a

cigarette, it was the last thing he did. It's a pretty common matter.

It's what we call self-correcting. Sam
