Hi Lynn,

I actually had a lot of info gathered on herb gardens and such. Let me see if I can find it again (heavens knows if it was before or after the crashing computer or if I'd remember the safe folder I put it in on here anyway lol). Maybe something will be of use. I do know some herbs prefer being outdoors, and mostly for the size of *yard* they like to have personally. Some are real spreaders. You'll need good size pots, too. Others do fine going indoors when it's cooler and going out on the porch or in the yard as it warms.

Are there any herbs you're thinking of in particular?

Hugs,

Challis

HI GUYS AND DOLLS,

THE ONLY WAY THIS COULD REALLY BE CONNECTED TO MS IS THAT IF IT WERE NOT FOR MY MS I MAY NOT HAVE BECOME INTERESTED.

I WAS CHECKING OUT SOME HERBS ETC BECAUSE A LOT OF THE SUPPLEMENTS ARE HERBS. BUT I GOT INTERESTED IN THEM AND I HAD GIVEN IT A PASSING THOUGHT OR 2 IN THE PAST OF RAISING SOME FOR COOKING ETC. WELL NOW I AM THINKING ABOUT RAISING SOME IN THE HOUSE . DOES ANYONE KNOW ANY THING ABOUT DOING THIS AND HAVE TIPS ABOUT TYPE AND ANY SPECIAL SECERTS.

THANKS

GOT TO GO

JUST OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD I LOVE TO COOK WITH ROSEMARY AND I WAS WONDERING ABOUT MAYBE TRYING SOME GINGER ROOT IN THE SPRING IF IT WILL GROW HERE. I FIGURED THAT WOULD BE AN OUTDOOR ONE THAT THE GRANDKIDS WHO DO THE YARD CANNOT HURT (I HOPE) (THEY CUT DOWN ONE OF MY CANNA LILLIES THAT WAS MAKING A BLOOM STEM.) BUT I REALLY AM NOT TOO KNOWLEDGABLE ABOUT WHAT WILL GROW AND WHERE. JOHN DOES NOT LIKE MANY SPICES OR SEASONINGS SO ONE THING I WAS THINKING WAS TEAS OR HEALTH OR BOTH

I HAVE A WINDOW BOX SIZE POT 2 IF I GIVE UP MY ROSE MOSS AND I BOUGHT A THING WITH TWO SHELVES WITH SMALL POTS IN THEM I BOUGHT IT THINK ING OF THE HERBS BUT MAINLY BECAUSE OF THE FLOWERS AND BUTTERFLIES ON IT.

I REALLY KNOW VERY LITTLE AND MOST OF WHAT I REMEMBER IS WHAT THEY ARE GOOD FOR HEALTH WISE AND SOMETIMES I CAN NOT EVEN REMEMBER THAT.

ANY THING YOU MAY HAVE WILL BE HELPFUL. THANK YOU.

So far, I've found nothing. I'm sure I lost it all. I may know where to look. Now only if I can remember to do that, and remember how to find it, I will. LOL

Do you have any books on Herbal healing?? :o)

Hi Lynn, :o)

"Herbal Healing" by Hallowell, is said to be a good source, more for knowledge of herbs. I enjoy it well enough. Lots of folks go by "Prescription for Nutritional Healing" (I usually just call it RX for Nut Healing lol) and I like it well enough. They've come out with an Herbal book, as well, and my MIL gave it to me last Christmas. They're both two of the sources I use to check into when curious about something. I wouldn't use either as my sole source, and I probably use RX for Nuts most often. Susun Weeds books are nice. She has a website, as well. Duke's "The Green Pharmacy" is an old standard. I'm trying to get a copy myself. My Sis-in-law found it for cents at a thrift store! Argh! LOL These are a few ideas, if you're intersted. :o) There are more, but I'm all proud that I remembered these. LOL

There used to be a great website on herbal info, but it's gone all commercial now. Bleck.

You can get your seeds or plants form lots of sources. Most stores that sell vegetable and flower seeds will also carry herbs. I have a number of packets. Just no seeds planted. LOL For buying plants, offhand I remember Richter's. I have a catalog somewhere, if not a website. If I remember correctly, it was more than I wanted to pay right then. Though I understand theirs are some of the better prices (and a place you can trust). I have seen the plants at Walmart, etc. And a rule is, you can start out this way and create your own organic fare from there. :o)

Do you have a book, or books, on preparing your herbs and tinctures and teas? (Again, Susun Weed does pretty good covering this as well). I've not gotten into all that yet, as I know care is needed and I haven't the sources yet. All on my wish list though. lol

I'm still buying loose leaf teas from local natural markets.

Someplace you might be able to find info on growing your herbs is at http://www.organicgardening.com/ Kinda seems there was some decent info there. Just remember, you're trusting my memory there. lol

If I had the space, and fewer kitties to get int he way lol, I'd have more plants indoors, too. :o)

Challis

HI CHALLIS,

Yes I have "THE HEALING HERBS / the ultimate guide to hte curative power of nature's medicines" by Castleman.

And I have looked them up on the net. I am pretty sure I printed out the one I found to be most interesting but I have just skimmed it instead of reading at least twice and marking and making notes.

And I do know that it is mostly a matter of personal choice but If I chose the ones that grow out doors only then I probably should not think about it until I build a rock garden or a rock wall around the spot. between the scoccer dog and the people who cannot tell a flower is growing there so they cut them down; I will need something like that.

Another question I had about growing the herbs is like where do I find them and are they seeds or plants

no real problem and don't look too hard your family needs your time more than I do. If you find it fine if not then I can call the nursery I just thought if someone had been growing them I could learn alittle more before I started looking and have a better idea what the pro is talking about and not get bamboozled

Make it a great day

LYNN
