Guest guest
Many thanks Max I've had this recipe for years, but have probably lost it because................ I have to blushingly confess that I have never made the time to make it up. (probably some of the time I spent complaining about the cost of Floradix could have been utilised ;-) This year's resolution is JFDI, so I think i will!! Re Iron though, one thing I recommend everybody does, if they don't already, is eat as many fresh young nettles in Spring as you reasonably can! Delicious! I use tte de Bairicli Levy's recipe, and will post it when they spring up . I was once threatened with iron pills during pregnancy, refused, went home, ate nettles nightly, returned in a week for retesting, to be told my iron levels were " a bit high " One week, after a childhood of mild anaemia...... Herbs are soooo cool. Guest guest
Hedley gave it to us as students in about 1987. Can anyone take it back further? Guest guest
Mm, my memory predates that by a couple of years, and I'm not entirely sure I didn't hear it mentioned when I studied with Fred Fletcher Hyde in the 70's Sally Owen > Hedley gave it to us as students in about 1987. Boil potatoes until soft, chop smaller or crush but leave seem texture so don't mash. Guest guest
I remember getting this recipe from Church when I did some of my clinical hors with him at his home, that was in 1992 I think. He had the nettle and apricot recipe from Hedley and Non Shaw, who taught that to me before I started studying, so that must have been in 1990, at an adult education workshop at the Ward Centre. Church then added the tinctures to it. Marilena. To: ukherbal-list From: sally@... Guest guest
In my old notes it was always 'Janet Hicks' Iron Tonic' . The time I spent with her doing some sort of clinic intensive (with Nicky as well) , would have been about 1979, not much later. . I have no idea where Janet got it from, but with a busy gynae practice, and making a good range of medicines herself, she used it a lot. And I have certainly had great results with it, and it is delicious!!. Seems to me that old herbalists (with some notable exceptions, I must say) did not attach 'ownership' to herbal recipes, much as artists in many non-Western societies have had a tradition of not signing their paintings. So this post is in the spirit of 'when's the earliest that anyone can remember using this?' rather than 'whose is it?'. Sue
